Guest guest
I am realizing more and more in spite of my family NOT really quite understanding, that I HAVE to take time to walk and just sit in nature and find peace. I end up having more energy and feeling better when I do. Otherwise I just stress out and push and push and end up accomplishing nothing. Blessings! marla > Boy, do I ever understand what you're saying here. I find that meditation > helps achieve with this. I am also very sensitive and need peace. Guest guest
Marla, I am 34. I have UC (7 years) and am SCD for four years. For me, diet alone was not enough, because I was also sensitive to pollens and dust mites (through the roof), mold and I became environmentally intolerant especially to chemicals in my environment before I figured it all out. I do not get itchy eyes, I bleed and have mood problems like panic attacks and emotional issues. For me, it has been SCD plus environmental changes that has helped me. We went fragrance free, removed carpeting, added air purifiers, filtered the water for chlorine, removed trigger foods(even some legal ones) from my diet, minimized plastics, etc. I have a comprehensive program which includes SCD, but SCD alone did not work for me........it just helped so much that I did not stray from it because straying from it was worse. My anxiety attacks are much better under control now too as a side bonus as I am getting well. It turns out that I have panic attacks when my bodies " load " gets too high. It is like a barrel and all the toxins and chemicals and other things we do not tolerate go in. When it gets too high it will overflow and problems happen. For me, onions, tomatoes, oranges, brocolli (so most of the salicylates) were problems for mood/panic. I occasionally have tomatoes now but not the others. Cheese makes me personally " rage " too. Black pepper was a problem for me too.....I have read it can have mold........ anyway, that part is individual and takes a lot of trial and error to figure out.....just because a food did that to me oes not mean that is the problem one for her. It has taken me four years to get everything sorted out for myself. This is a long journey...I am not sure it can be short for some of us........but I am off medication and thriving but I still have strict environmental controls and do not get out a lot and I am strict SCD with rotation to avoid becoming sensitive to more foods. I do take antigens (like allergy shots but no preservatives) for many things too....and a few interesting things have helped the panic but get way too off topic for this list.......I am already fringing off topic so I will leave it at that. Could you homeschool during this period of time while figuring things out? It might help take the pressure and anxiety about a fast answer off the table. I am homeschooling, but my children are 5 and 3. It is much more common nowadays and we like it because we can keep a fragrance free environment for my kids who are sensitive too and I can keep them SCD without illegals sneaking in. The first thing I would recommend is a safe place for her to go when she has the panic attacks....have you heard of " oasis rooms " ? Perhaps google that.....but I know SCD is a lot on the plate right now. Truthfully, we do not do SCD with elaborate bells and whistles anymore. I have all the cookbooks but we rarely make " recipes " anymore. We eat simply. The " recipes " are for special occasions. I bake my meat in water....no black pepper since it was a problem for me.......steamed veggies on the side. We vary the foods too so not any one food too often. I think meal preparation is actually much simpler on SCD than traditional once you get in that groove....where every meal does not have to be " party " caliber. We do not have to spend all the time doing the condiments because we have adapted to not expect/need them anymore since I am intolerant to the mayo and the tomatoes now. And I am happy because I feel well. HTH Michele PS, I recommend that you start a food/symptoms journal for her. Sometimes symptoms from a food show up the next day or even up to four days later. Look for red cheeks or ears after a meal. Try to find cause and effect. Once you can see an " on and off " to the symptoms you are on the right track. When I started, my UC symptoms were continuously " on " and it is so frustrating and hard at that stage to see which things matter and which don't. Hang in there.
