Guest guest
Hi , Sorry if I spell your name wrong at times my sister spells it with one L. And yes, I do feel like I have a drug store in my cupboard. The prescription for the folic acid is because of my anticardiolipin syndrome. It causes blood clots. Sorry I should have mentioned that. Guess I never thought of upping the Ca/Mg, during my period. That is pretty simple. So I need to add selenium and copper, than the iron. I am gagging already, I hate taking pills. Anything is worth a try though. Thank you for answering so many of my questions. I buy my vitamins from a friend that owns a bulk food store and she carries supplements. She isn't always in when I go they have 10 children and also homeschools. Debbie R.

Guest guest
Debbie - No apology necessary, my gran still spells it with one 'L', too! I should try upping my Ca/Mg because I notice my heart rate goes up right before my period, too. I've been subconsciously noticing it, but until you mentioned something, I never really thought about actually doing something about it. Try adding the copper first, to see if you have any problems taking it. Definitely take it with food, it can upset your stomach. Start slowly. I know what you mean, I hate taking pills, too. Wait until you get the selenium - it smells terrible! Sometimes I have to get a different glass than the one I used to take the pills with because it tastes like selenium. Ick! Good luck. P. S. 10 children and homeschools! Yikes! I think if I tried that, my kids would be the most stupid children in town! Where does she find the time! Guest guest
I love all the great info today ! Getting late, and I have swamped your inboxes enough, but.... , Thanks for talking about supplements. I am going to study your posts in the morning. Holly, Don't give up yet. You are on ATDs like I am ...right? I am the one whose eyes have gone back in after many years. The bags are much less, though I was lucky on that. They were not as bad as some pictures I have seen. And my hair is all growing back In fact it is getting long. Way past the point where it used to stop. I am growing it out, just for the pure joy of it, even though I guess when you get older you are supposed to cut it. I have the same pattern of bald spots in the front. My left side/ front could still use improvement, but, hey it took a long time to get bad, so I shall wait. Oh...Big news here, well big in my life. I was finally able to buy a 'big girl' hair clip the other day. I have been having to use the kids ones, as my hair was too thin for a bigger one to stay in. Just had to tell someone that ! I wouldn't expect most to understand. Holly, I find there can be a time lag on some of the hair loss, so don't panic. But have you had labs done recently. My hair loss is the worst after a change. Be it up or down. Debbie, I feel for you and the feet in the AM....Been there , done that. For years. Just now getting over it. I still awake, and am surprised when they don't hurt. But then I have not had my thyroid levels where they should be in all this time. So , for me, this has been the answer. Mine were so bad, I learned to keep the Ibuprofen by my bed, set alarm early, check my feet, take the pills, wait for an hour , and then hobble out of bed. I removed the carpet in my room, as the cold floor seemed to help. Do you see desperation in this, LOL. But it does make me really angry that they kept telling me it was not thyroid, and keeping me too hypo. Long, hard fought battle....I could go on, but will stop before you all get sick of hearing me. :-) -Pam-
Guest guest
Holly, Don't give up yet. You are on ATDs like I am ...right? Pam, Yes. I was tested on Dec 17, and was still slightly hypo. He cut my dose in half again, but I got to feeling hyper, and am now taking my 5 mg dose at night (I'm supposed to be taking 5 mg once a day), and I'm taking 2.5 (approximately -- I'm breaking a pill into quarters without a line!) in the morning. I'm still feeling hyper. I'm not scheduled to go back until mid-february, but I've toyed with the idea of having my PCP test me now since I know I'm not right. Anyway, in the 5 months since I've been diagnosed I've been up and down. I guess that has to be really hard on the body. I am the one whose eyes have gone back in after many years. Pam, I love that you're growing your hair out! What an empowering feeling after all this! Hey, I might just do the same when it starts growing back in. You know, my left side/ front is the really bad spot. I wonder if there's something to that?? Oh...Big news here, well big in my life. I was finally able to buy a 'big girl' hair clip the other day. Guest guest
Holly, Get a pill cutter from your local pharmacy. It has really made a difference in my unscored pills especially. I dont' have the good knives to do it with a knife. Guest guest
Holly, I'm learning a lot from this group...really confused....or shall I say speechless (which would make my family & friends laugh since I never shut-up) with all the info. I was thinking all along that my hair loss (though not a lot at this time) on each side by my temples was from pulling my hair back all the time (3 little boys here) and from sleeping on my stomach with my face turned to the side...when I sleep I sleep really hard and wake up with incredible bed-head! :0) Anyway, just wanted to mention my original thoughts about it and I am looking forward to more info from others, since I didn't make the GD connection. Take care! Rhonda

Guest guest
Hi Rhonda, I had to laugh when you said >>>I'm learning a lot from this group...really confused....or shall I say speechless<<< I remember my first thoughts on this when I first started learning about graves...after being hypo for 4 1/2 years...I thought I would never ever learn, retain or be able to use anything I was reading. But the more I read and the more control I got with my disease, the better my mind worked as I moved forward into a healthier me. It does get better and easier over time! Guest guest
, Not sure about the Ginseng but I have heard some contradicting things about the Ginkgo Biloba. Have you talked to her doc. to get his opinion if you should introduce these supplements?
Guest guest
, I use Ginkgo biloba twice a day and find it helps some with my memory issues, but not with energy. Make sure you check about taking it with the other meds she is on. It is a natural blood thinner, so you need to watch bleeding times. DeMoss wrote: > Has anyone tried ginseng or ginkgo biloba? Guest guest
Here's a link for info on ginseng http://www.naturemade.com/ProductDatabase/prd_prod.asp?productid=36 Here's one for ginkgo http://www.naturemade.com/productdatabase/prd_prod.asp?productid=35 I used to use Siberian ginseng, but don't know if it helped. I've been taking gingko for years. It seems to help with cognitive function, and also helps to alleviate my tinnitus. B
Guest guest
I take ginseng, but not on a daily basis, but only when I need it for like long term driving etc. ginseng is a blood thinner, so I dont like to take it for every day. > Has anyone tried ginseng or ginkgo biloba?
