Guest guest
Ann: They're veggies are probably processed at a different plant. You would have to contact the corporate office to find out who packages their " brand " and ask them about their processing. Very interesting indeed. It's good that you keep good track of not only what you buy, but where you buy it! We all know that you can buy LIBBYS peas in a can and the store brand comes from the same plant, under the store label. This store must get their " brand " veggies from a plant other than what the other store uses. I would ask them both. Please let us know what you find out. Guest guest
I'm just wondering if anyone knows: what on earth do some stores (at least Hy-Vee) put into their frozen veggies that would make them illegal? Of course the ingredients list only the vegetable, and nothing else. But there's GOT to be something else there. Any ideas? I would suspect sulfites first. Do you know if you are sensitive to them? I'm extermely sensitive to sulfites and react the same way you described. Sulfites are not illegal but many people have trouble with them. Up until now I thought that my UC was all about food, nothing about stress, but these two weeks have proven to me that stress takes its toll too! I've just returned to work this week and noticed the same thing! I'm trying to get a routine. Guest guest
I go to one certain store for frozen vegetables. If I get a different (name) brand at a different store (the first is the store brand) I have the same problems you mentioned. Stress is a major key for me also. You may have to step back with easy food until you adjust. Guest guest
Ann I've had a similar experience, reacting to some brands of frozen vegetables and not to others. My symptoms are a bit different, but it's stil a negative reaction. Also happens with some meats and some types of packaged fresh produce. There's never anything listed on the packaging labels other than the food, so I think it's OK and SCD-legal. But.... I've assumed the food is washed with something that aggravates my digestion. Maybe some companies don't rinse the food as thoroughly as others? Or a different combination of chemicals are used in the washing process between different producers. I just make a note of the brand name and avoid it in the future. And I continue to purchase as much food fresh from local sources as I can. Kim M. Guest guest
Hi Kim M, This is very interesting- as I find certain frozen stuff sets me off as well. I thought I was a freak!! Not that I am happy this happens to others I was just starting to think I'm crazy.. Guest guest
Jodi You're definitely not a freak! We're just people who now have ultrasensitive digestive systems. I really wish I had more locally grown and organic produce available in my area. Or I was able to grow more veggies myself. So I wouldn't have to use frozen veggies at all. Kim M. Guest guest
Hi Kim M, I find that local preferably organic in season works best for me too. I have been going to the Green Market here in NYC every other day and it really has been working super well for me. I freeze stuff myself. I spoke to a farmer today that if I email them that I want X amount of goat milk they will bring it in for me (it's local and pasture fed- it is not certified organic but they use those methodologies!) Very excited about this. I also have been buying grass fed bison meat and marrow bones weekly which have really been agreeing with me. It's pricey though to shop this way!
