Guest guest
Citric acid is really troublesome to my family though it is legal. The juice concentrate would not be legal though. > > I foudn a jar of pear halves in whit grape juice > ingredients: > pear halves > white grape juice concentrate, water to reconstitute, citric acid, absorbic acid > is this legal, I found it at Trader Joes? > > > JAH > SCD 4 years > http://www.glutenfreeeugene.org/xl2/scd.html >

Not legal -- see earlier post. Only fruit canned in its own juice (not even pineapple canned in pineapple juice) is SCD legal. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
This is interesting, but what I thought as well. On a website touted as SCD legal recipes, not only are pears in white grape juice listed as legal, but also Applegate uncured turkey dogs - I believe that there were older posts about this product and it was discovered that they were illegal also? If anyone recalls, I'd love to know. Lord knows it would be super easy to boil a hot dog for dinner tonight!!! :-) Kim > >I foudn a jar of pear halves in whit grape juice > >ingredients: pear halves white grape juice > >concentrate, water to reconstitute, citric acid, > >absorbic acid is this legal, I found it at Trader Joes? > > Not legal -- see earlier post. If anyone recalls, I'd love to know. Lord knows it would be super easy to boil a hot dog for dinner tonight!!! :-) Which website? Pears in white grape juice are NOT legal. Only fruit in its own juice is. There's a lot of debate about Applegate products. Some people are convinced they are OK. Some people say that only some of their products MAY be OK. Some people say no processed food is legal. I fall into the middle category. Some MAY be OK for SOME people. I can tell you that their sliced beef lunch meat is not OK for me -- gave me the runs in double quick time. I have looked at their hot dogs many times. The blue label ones MIGHT be OK. Hot dogs do make an easy dinner. That's why I created a recipe for making my own. I make hot dog bun wrappers out of souffle bread and spread it with homemade mustard, add a dog and cheese and heat in the oven. Hmm, wonder how hot dogs made of bison would come out? — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Boy, I hate to give it a bad name, because I've found some wonderful things from it, so please be kind - it's Nomorecrohns.com. Under the prepared foods section. Kim, There really are some great recipes there. In fairness to the site, I must note that at the bottom of their list, they say, " NOTE: As with any prepared product, make a note of whether they give you any symptoms. If so, discontinue use. Not all companies detail which ingredients make up less than 2% of the total product, so a sure way of finding out what is in the product is to ask them for a list of ingredients in writing before you try a product. Refer to " Breaking the Vicious Cycle " for more instructions about prepared products. " So they do warn people that some of the prepared foods they use may not be suitable for newbies or for individuals with specific sensitivities. It's just that many people are so eager to escape the perceived drudgery of Make Your Own that they ignore such warnings. These are the items which are listed as prepared foods that I would not use, or would approach with caution: Small cans of Dole Pineapple Orange Juice: BTVC does not permit juice mixtures. Real Lime and Real Lemon Juice: use fresh or fresh frozen. I admit that the bottle would be easier, and take up less space in my poor, overstuffed refrigerator than the two dozen lemons I have in there right now, but I won't trust it. Luv Yu Pineapple Salad Vinegar: I've never seen this one, so don't know what the label says. I would probably be cautious with it until my gut decided whether or not it liked it. Spice world minced garlic: too likely to have a preservative added. I buy and peel fresh garlic, then freeze or dehydrate it. Decaffeinated Lipton tea: unless I had a letter delineated that this is water-decaf and not chemically done, I would not use this product. elli's Sparkling Apple Cider: not legal -- there have been a number of discussions on this over on Pecan Bread. North Coast Apple Sauce: Make Your Own! It's easy, and safer! Applegate Farms Uncured Turkey Hot Dogs (all other types are not legal): I prefer homemade, though I have tested these. My husband (non-SCD) likes them a lot, and says they let my homemades stretch for me. (Meaning there's less time between him being drafted to help me make sausage.) I was OK with these, but because I have other issues of unavoidable illegals (one med which cannot be compounded), I prefer not to run the risk. Spectrum Organic Mayonaise: not legal. Make your own. Lara Bar legal flavors: Ginger Snap, Pecan Pie, Cherry Pie, Cashew Cookie, Apple Pie, Pistachio, Lemon Bar, Cinnamon Roll, Peanut Butter Cookie: I've eaten these and been okay with them in an emergency. People who cannot tolerate whole nuts or much fruit should avoid like the plague. Gala Apple Juice: no commercial apple juice is legal. Use apple cider instead. Freeze-Dried Mango: probably legal -- I would want to see the package before using. Salsa Verde: might be legal. (We can use pickles if the ingredients are legal, and mustard, but I would be approach this with great care.) 100% Wild Blueberry Juice: not one of the approved juices. Approach with caution. Peach Halves in white grape juice: not legal. Only fruit in its own juice is legal. I repeat -- I love the site -- but I sometimes thing that people can be too hasty in pronouncing something as legal because they want it to be legal. These are clearly products which the site owner has found useful, but which may not be advised for everyone. As always, what you choose to use is your business. If, however, you are not seeing the results you hope for from SCD, eliminate all non home-prepared foods and then see how it goes. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
