Guest guest
Hi all, Yesterday I noticed that my dose of MTX gave me some mild heart sensations all day. They weren't at the level of palpitations, more like an awareness of my heart working a little harder. Climbing stairs made my heart pound. I noticed this happening (to a lesser degree) last week, too. Guess I'd better call the rheumy, eh? Have others had similar experiences on MTX? Guest guest
I've discovered via internet research that heart palpitations can be a symptom of folic acid deficiency. Guest guest
Very interesting, especially since Methotrexate is known to reduce the folic acid level in the body. ----- Original Message ----- From: snowdrift52003 Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2005 2:30 PM Subject: Re: Heart sensations on MTX I've discovered via internet research that heart palpitations can be a symptom of folic acid deficiency.Sierra> I've never had anything like that but I agree that a call to your doctor is in order. Guest guest
How much folic acid is the norm? I take 1mg a day with a multi-vitamin. My fill in doctor for my regular doctor said that my last two blood tests showed that I am anemic. My regular doctor has gone out of state for a year and I've had a replacement. I've been anemic most of my life but she seems to think my anemia is one that is from blood loss and wants me to see a stomach doctor to have my colon checked. There are many factors in my life that I feel warrant anemima (not a veggie eater, heavier monthly's, RA, MTX etc.) I have no signs of any problems in that area, no stomach pain or anything. I have seen my RA dr who took more blood tests and I am awaiting his results and hoping they are normal, but I am SO resisting going to have colon check So I gues I'm asking if this is familiar to anyone else with RA? Do you stay anemic with this disease? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com -----Original Message----- From: snowdrift52003 [mailto:snowdrift52003@...] Sent: Saturday, February 12, 2005 5:31 PM Rheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Re: Heart sensations on MTX I've discovered via internet research that heart palpitations can be a symptom of folic acid deficiency. Guest guest
You get what is called the " anemia of chronic disease " . I take 300 mg of Ferrous gluconate (iron) for that am and pm. Actually the doctor suggested it for 3x per day, but I thought it bothered my stomach or gut a bit and did not want to take that much. I also take 1mg of folic acid per day, but the day before my shot of MTX I take 2. I am afraid to load up on the same day since MTX is a folic inhibitor and I don't want to make it less effective. I also take an NSAID (voltaren) and along with it Losec for the stomach. Annette -- In Rheumatoid Arthritis , " Maggie " <meshouse@e...> wrote: > How much folic acid is the norm? Guest guest
I'm a bit on the anemic side but it is nothing I worry about. My red blood count has ranged from 3.53 to 4.07 with normal being 4.3 to 5.7 and my hemoglobin has ranged from 10.3 to 12.2 with normal being 13./ to 16.7. My regular doctor has me take a sample of stool about once a year to check for blood. I would think that would be done instead of (or at least in addition to) a colonoscopy. Guest guest
Maggie, I do believe that I also stay anemic and think it can go along with the RA. I would feel like you about the colon check also - hesitant. I guess they want to be sure but I would not be eager for that either.... Guest guest
A colonoscopy is not a big deal. You're under light anesthesia and you don't even know that anything happened afterwards. The worst part is preparing for it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Kay Simpson Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Sunday, February 13, 2005 11:10 PM Subject: Re: Re: Heart sensations on MTX Maggie, I do believe that I also stay anemic and think it can go along withthe RA.
