Guest guest
For making yogurt I use a cardboard box and have a double folded electric heating blanket in it. I heat the milk in a huge pot and then just place the whole pot in the box. I keep a thermometer in the yogurt (a metal one with a wire to a display) so that I can monitor the temperature. I put a folded towel over the pot to help keep it warm. I make 5 quarts of yogurt in one go. I do this twice a week and that covers our needs. I found making just 1 or 2 quarts at a time was stressful and we were always running out of yogurt. Cecilia
Guest guest
Hi Marilyn,My Excalibur was my second SCD tool -- the first was the Yogourmet, and I just couldn't keep up with yogurt making, especially since I couldn't find dry curd cottage cheese and was substituting well-dripped yogurt for it in many recipes! If I'd known in 2001 what I know now, the Excalibur would have been my first choice! Yeah, hindsight is 20/20. If I'd known then what I know now, I would've taken the money I spent on the yogurt maker, dimmer switch and dehydrator and gotten the Excalibur. And I still don't have a food processor, which everyone else seems to consider essential! With all the cooking you do, I don't know how you've survived without one! Kim H.
