Guest guest
I had sleep apnea. I to gained weight due to my inactivity with CMT. my Doctor did a study and mine was due to the soft palate in my mouth falling down as I slept. I had a uvalapalotoplasty and lost 20 pounds and I have no more problems now. Cathleen in Arkansas
Guest guest
My father has both CMT1A and Sleep Apnea. He is also been overweight most of his life so I'm not sure how much the weight vs. CMT has affected the sleep apnea. I am seeing a sleep specialist next week to be tested for sleep apnea. I also have CMT1A, but I am not overweight. I have had sleep problems for as long as I can remember, but just never got around to seeing a doctor. It's only because my poor husband is suffering that I'm finally ready to do something about the apnea. I guess my first question to you is how long have you had sleep apnea? Have you always had it or did it appear after the weight gain? According to my family doctor, I don't have the typical build for someone with sleep apnea. If fact, she seemed very skeptical when I told her that I wanted to be tested. She said that all of her patients with sleep apnea are overweight. Because she knows so little about CMT she was willing to write the 'script for me to see the specialist. I'll let you know when I get the results from the sleep analysis. As an aside, I have suffered from fatigue for most of my life which I believe is related to the sleep apnea (I'm sure the CMT plays a big part too). I started taking vitamins about 4 months ago and have had a big boost of energy. I still need more sleep than my husband and friends, but it doens't take me as long to wake up in the morning, and I have a lot more energy througout the day. Good luck! Guest guest
Recently my doc has put me on a mild anticonvulsant to hekp me sleep, Clonazepham 2 mg. one pill before bed time. It has worked wonders! I used to be in such pain and so anxious I would only sleep a couple of hours. It does not put me to sleep, but it relaxes me so I am not too anxious to sleep. I stll get up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom, still get up at the same time in the AM, etc. Well today my hubby sez I have started snoring a little and seem to be gasping for air, then resume snoring (sleep apnea)? He sez I only do this a couple of times a night... I am not a large person or overweight, I do not sleep on my back or tummy.. (risk factors) Is this a big deal (stopping breathing for a few seconds per night because I am sedated )? I have read some people stop for over 200 times.... I have no obstructions and am 100 percent healthy other than RA! Low blood pressure, thin, active, great heat and lungs.... I do not want to stop the drug. I am only taking two mg and many people take ten times that amount.... Thanks soooo much, Pris How was the one and only 4 time "World Pig Champion" Nellie trained? I do have apnea and the machine helps. Lynette
