Guest guest
Yippee my membership card and ngew gen came this morning. Don't feel like such a fraud now LOL Must congratulate the Newgen on a wonderful article ........ Watch your language! I *failed* to breastfeed my dd through embarrassment/ignorance call it what you want. Was more determined with ds (now 5 months) unfortunately was so ill after birth that I only managed 2 days worth and then illness took over and my hefty 10 lber wasn't satisfied! Didn't beat myself up over it but was regretful. However, other people *well meaning* intentions have often left me feeling like I was a *bad mother* and not so much scared of admitting I bottle fed, more shy of saying so. Whilst not giving *permission* for people to bottle feed the article was so well written that it almost said * it's still okay* (which it is as the only alternative). The promotion of breast is best is so important that the feelings of bottle fed mothers can be inadvertently trampled on (all with the best intentions of course). As suggested in the article, I wholeheartedly support the the lines " if you are bottle feeding .... " I put off joining the NCT as I had the *guilt* of being a bottle feeding mum and thought I wouldn't be welcome. I am so glad to be wrong Well Done for a wonderful article ....... Guest guest
, I agree with you whole heartedly. I had the most dreadful time trying to breastfeed DS (who is now 12). I soldiered on for 10 weeks until DH decided enough was enough and sat me down saying the heartache I was going through was not worth the effort and we know we want another child so we will have another go then. This ended 10 weeks of cracked and bleeding nipples, test weighing, frowns and advice from well intended 'experts' (5 midwifes, 4 health visitors, 1 BFC and the 2 old dears who helped weigh the baby's at the baby clinic.) So DS went on the bottle. DD arrived less than 2 years later, and I fed her until she was 15 months old and I can count the bottles she had in her mouth on the fingers of on hand. However, when DD was about 4 months old I went to an NCT coffee morning when one of the other Mums who had just had a new baby was asked 'are you feeding her yourself? And her very 'snotty' remarks was, 'is there any other way?' I felt so angry at her! Now as a teacher I make sure my Mums know that I will support them what ever their decision. Breast feeding might be natural but to some it does not come naturally. I know it can be the most glorious experience and I still feel very envious and bereft when a see a Mum breastfeeding her beautiful child. I miss it very much. However, I also can not forget what I went through trying to feed my son and the relief I felt when my husband suggested he when solely on the bottle. It just makes me feel normal as I have the DS like yours although I only managed 5 weeks and didn't even get to the bleeding nipples stage as he just wasn't interested in nipples! He is interested in Boobies now though at 22months!!Hmmmm bit later if you ask me. I just pray that I may be blessed with another child one day like your DD.
