Hi All!

I just wanted to write a little about last nite's meeting in SF. I had a

really good time!! It was worth the hour and half drive AND that HUGE

FREAKIN HILL that I had to go up in my truck that is a stick! OMG! I thought

I was going to have to find a REAL San Franciscan to get me off that hill. I

smoked my tires!! I got to the lobby at about 4:45 pm. I was there to meet

any that were going to dinner. Tho, I am at the very begining of this

journey.. I felt compelled to go up to the 5th floor and see Dr. Rabkin's

office. I felt excited...(of course I was still shaking from my hill

experience..so who knows). But I just got this rush of emotion as I walked

into the office. I had no reason to be there and it dawned on me that I am

going to look really weird for just coming into a Doctors office for no

reason. SO, I asked the girl where the meeting was being held. When I was

walking back to the lobby I was grinning like a cat. I can't believe I am

such a dork! Anyway, I sat down and hoped that I wouldn't be all by myself

for two hours!! I had just sat down and Mama B walked in. We introduced

ourselves and hugged and waited a bit. We decided to walk to the resteraunt.

It was just us until Sharon showed up.NICE MEETING YOU SHARON!! We had a

great conversation and a great meal!!! That garlic oil and bread is

MMMMMMMMM GOOOOOD! We walked back to the meeting and met up with some of

you. I have to say Debby from Medesto is FANTASTIC!! One word:

EFFERFESCENT!! WOW GIRL!! She is 10 days out and it is UNREAL! SHE IS JUST

BURSTING WITH HAPPINESS. Debby I think you look MAVALOUS!! And you have a

wonderful supportive daughter! There was much laughter and excitement and

Delphine had a bit of a hard time of getting us Chatty Kathy's to settle

down! Anyway, Delphine introduced us to a plastic surgeon who I really

liked. He showed us slides showing us the different types of surgery and

before and after pics! I just about split a seam when Delphine was trying to

focus a slide of a womans breast and it kept landing on this poor Doc's

head! Hysterical. It was just amazing some of the work he has done. Very

interesting case of a young woman who lost over 200 lbs but was left with a

lot of skin hanging down. He helped her out tremendously. There was slides of

a male patient who had a tummy tuck and a butt lift. He looked great.(what

happened to all his body hair???? Had to be there.)I could have done without

the " full monty " but oh well, It's just a body. But we were giggling like

teenagers..I am glad that the Dr ( I am sure someone out there remembers his

name) took are laughter in stride! It was very imformative. He talked about

insurence's need to start paying for these types of sugerys. There was a Q & A

and than on to the Q & A with Dr.Rabkin.I don't know who the Brave lady was

but she asked a question that I could never ask..tho would want to know..

(of course I had no problem telling the group how wonderful my breast

reduction was.. go figure!)But, she asked about poops. Why they were smaller

and lighter in color.. Delphine was cracking up. The Doc's looked truly

squirmish. Delphine kept saying " They can't handle these kinds of

questions..LOOK at them! " But the answer was from what I could gather was

that the waste spends less time in the colon and there fore doesn't have

time to ..what did Dr.Rabkin say?? " overcook " was that the word.. something

along that line. Anyway, that bile and secretions are what give BM's a

darker color. As far as smaller..I have to let someone else answer that one.

I was laughing to hard to hear. You think we all had a potty fetish! I asked

about blood transfusions and what are the chances of needing one. He said

that he very rarely has to use them. Some people might be anemic and that

would be one reason why they might have to have a blood transfusion. There

was anouther question from a student of anthropology and she wanted to know

if she was to study in Mongolia would she be putting herself at risk by not

being able to have a steady food supply. He suggested to make sure she took

extra food and that is a concern. I thought it to be a rather interesting

concern. She has a few years to go in her studies before she would ever come

to that...but I think it is smart that she IS thinking about all aspects of

the surgery. I hope to see her on this list soon. We told several people

about the list.

This was the first time I had ever seen Dr. Jossart! WOW! He is really good

looking!!!! OH! Delphine mentioned that next meeting we are to bring a pot

luck . To bring things we would like to share and the recipies. I am sure

there will be more info on this later. ALso, she mentioned that she wanted

to have a fashion show perhaps in April. SOunds fun. I had a wonderful time

meeting new people and some of you on the list!!! I talked my husband's ear

off when I got home. Just like I have done here. I won't apologize for it

being so long... !! I am just totally jazzed up here! LOL!! I hope everyone

who missed the meeting due to illness or too tired from just having surgery

will be able to come in December. Lot's of Love!

What a great meeting you had! thanks for posting about it. I have a

daughter in the SF area who is obese.. possibly now MO, not sure. She is

very opposed to any sort of WLS (go figure). I keep thinking that after she

sees the changes in my body and that of her sister following WLS that she

may reconsider. So I will be ready to recommend a surgeon to her pronto.

She's my kid.. how long can she stay totally clueless?? <crossing all

crossables>

Great report... thanks .. next time hopefully more poop questions LOL

Dear : Thanks for the great post. We attempted to get to the

meeting last night. The traffic was awful!!!!! We turned around and

came home when we only were 1/2 the way and it was already 6:30. I

would have loved to hear about the plastic surgery. DARN>>>>would

have loved to meet you all too. Maybe next time.

Warm Wishes, Saundra

,

It would be great if she could just come to One meeting! She doesn't have to

come for herself but maybe she would come for YOU! I think that it is so

important for family members to learn as much as possable about the surgery

and all the why's and what's! Perhaps she would go for your sake! You never

know what she will take away with her!

Much Peace,

the way you were going! I was coming from Sacramento and at that time of day

it is not to bad. I don't know how people do it everyday!! NO wonder people

are stressed and have road rage!!

Hope you can come next time!

! Your post was a delight! And yea, asking Rabkin about the

change in color and caliber of poop was great fun! We all talk about

the smell (and who the hell cares anymore, anyway, we all know the

reason!!) but after 10 months of making this new poop, I was quite

curious about the reason for the changes (I am a medical nut) -- other

people who are ever farther postop than me (we WILL NOT mention names

here!!) were curious, too. And since Rabkin and I have been through

lots together, and I know most everything ELSE there is to know about

this surgery, I couldn't help but ask. But I do have to say, after he

was so tripped up by my question (to think after 600 surgeries, no one

had asked him!!) I could feel my face getting very red!! At the end

of the meeting, he grabbed me aside and laughingly said " , you

just need to eat more straw!!! "

I too, laughed all the way home!

Welcome to the crazy DS world, and glad to see you in person!
