Guest guest
Sal, As Jodi said, being on LDN while on high level of prednisone, you will not see the effect of LDN. Also as Jodi said, I would not rush to jump on 6mp. The GI had my teenage son start 6mp along with prednisone in July 07 - the reason being 6mp takes 3-6 months to " kick in " and the idea was that by the time you'd taper off prednisone, the 6mp would be in effect and maintain remission. It did not work well at all for him and, after learning in July 08 that my son has C-diff and other pathogenic bacterial issues, it seems a suppressed immune system is not at all what he needs. We stopped the 6mp in April 07 after he got the -Sachy virus and was horribly ill. He was way too immune-suppressed. His testosterone level is also very low, probably from the prednisone having suppressed the adrenal system (if I understand that correctly - and I don't think LDN would have anything to do with the low testosterone level). A slow taper off prednisone is supposed to ensure the adrenals get back on board, and he did taper slowly, but the GI doctor did not monitor anything related to adrenals to see if things were going right (which apparently they weren't). We work with a holistic MD now and he is considering using cortisol to get the testosterone up. We will be asking more about this and adding in LDN at our appt next week. I'm curious how you got prescribed LDN while on prednisone. If you haven't seen it yet, the best website for LDN is http://www.lowdosenaltrexone.org/ and the Yahoo group for LDN is awesome http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/lowdosenaltrexone/ People on the group have said taking LDN as a transdermal cream vs. a pill is more effective for IBD patients due to trouble absorbing through an inflammed colon. Good luck! Sally
Guest guest
WOW SALLY!!! This post rocked my world. After my whole C Diff debacle from Clindamycine 7 years ago in the hospital I got out a month later on so many meds including steroids. I came down with -horrible- -Sachy (was told only babies get it the way I did) I could not eat or swallow (so much worse then Strep) and I had to keep drinking lidocaine. What a nightmare!!! I was told that this was beyond rare. Reading that your son went through this pains me and makes me sad but I also see this connection with the whole C Diff thing. My goodness! Guest guest
Hi Mara, It's basically the human version of " foot and mouth " here's a link; http://www.medicinenet.com/coxsackie_virus/article.htm Babies are the ones that get it the most. It was beyond painful for me. Jodi SCD 13 months Crohn's/Colitis > > What is the cox-sachy virus?
