Guest guest
As low as your ferritin is the SR which mainly is just WEAKER may be fine to start with. How much iron are you taking? Usually it takes 150-200mg elemental iron daily to bring it up and wiht a 15 for ferritin I would be taking the higher 200mg dose. It can stil take a couple months to get Ferritin high enough where oyu r body will tolerate T3 and use it properly so the sl,ow release will be fine. for now. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
Guest guest
Hi , Thanks so much for your quick reply. I'm not taking any iron yet--it was a phone consult as my doc is out of town, so he's shipping it to me. He told me his iron product has significantly higher absorption than usual, and doesn't typically cause constipation or the digestive upset I usually get from iron. I'm guessing it's Neutraceuticals Chelated Iron. If so, the strength of one cap is only 29 mg. I don't know how this would compare to the usual iron supplements. Are you familiar with this, or do you suggest I get some "regular" iron? And you're saying to follow his instructions and start the SR after only a week on iron and HC? Also, I keep seeing that everyone seems to be on much higher doses of HC than the 10 mg/day he's prescribed. I'll know whether this is enough or not by doing the temperature graph? Thanks again. Guest guest
I can't really say much abiut hthe HC dose until I see oyur labs as that is how I recommend a starting dose, but yea I htink a week on the ioron & hc wold be good to start a VERY lwo dose of T3 that is probably 50% as potent as regular T3 anyway. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
Guest guest
Okay, I'll call the dr's office and ask them to fax me the adrenal labs. And thanks so much for easing my mind about the SR. His recommended starting dose is 5 mcg twice a day. If it's 50% as potent as regular T3, that seems like it should be pretty low. Guest guest
Hi , You wrote earlier today that you couldn't recommend an HC dose without seeing my labs. My doc prescribed a starting dose of 5 mg twice a day. Here are my labs. A graph was included--it showed I'm below both the optimal upper range and the optimal lower range throughout the time period tested. cortisol, saliva: 5.6 at 6:00 a.m. optimal range 7:00 a.m.: 7.0-10 ng/ml 2.1 at 11:00 a.m. optimal range noon: 3.0-6.0 ng/ml 2.6 at 5:00 p.m. optimal range 5:00 p.m.: 2.0-4.0 ng/ml 1.0 at 10:00 p.m. optimal range 10:00 p.m.: 1.5 ng/ml 13 neurotransmitters were also tested. I can send those results if it would be useful. Some were normal, some elevated, and some suboptimal. Other than cortisol, I don't know what any of it means. Thanks so much for your help. You are most likely going to need 30-35mg HC a day to actually feel welkl, tolerate Thyroid and be able ot use it and heal your adenals. I doubted 10mg would be enough as 90% of the itme it is not but seeing thee .. Guest guest
Well, bummer. When I spoke with my doc yesterday, I asked him if I might not need more than 10 mg. He said he wouldn't want to give me more than 15. So I was hoping my case wasn't that bad. I don't know how I'm going to get him to give me 30-35. It's taken me 25 years to find a doc who even knew enough to run the right tests, and to include RT3 in the testing. Now I don't know what to do. He's obviously very conservative with HC--he initially wanted to give me 5 mg, 1/2 tab twice a day. Are there strategies for working with docs who don't like to give enough HC, like something I can give him to read? I thought maybe I could supplement the HC with Isocort to push the levels up on my own, but I've taken every adrenal supplement on the planet, all without success. I know that nothing is going to work without getting the cortisol levels right, which means I'm going to feel awful once I start on T3. Peggy .. Guest guest
Okay, this means do it his way and hope that if it doesn't work, he's willing to raise the HC when I ask him to. My next appointment is in a month. Is that a good length of time, or too long if I'm not seeing results? In other words, how long should I take 10 mg/day of HC before I can feasibly say it's not working and ask for more? Sorry if I'm asking too many questions, but this seems crucial. Peggy ..
