Guest guest
I know a little bit about it. Just for the fact that it takes you back to eating the way people did in the Bible. - more of a Jewish menu, I believe. Guest guest
"patient heal thyself" is the first book i got when i found out about my son's illness he did see some improvement while on that diet; the improvement was less pain. this was before the official diagnosis. after i found out about SCD (via BTVC) and someone bought us as a gift "nourishing traditions" by sally fallon, we "put 2 and 2 together" and realized that rubin plagiarized the two latter books for his own, added some stuff about dirt (which we ignored), and used the book as a marketing tool for his products. while there is good information in the book (albeit stolen), and it is not a book i'd recommend to other people as a CURE for ailments, the diet outlined in the book is obviously far better than the SAD and people would in general probably be healthier by following the diet. adam bizzymomof5 wrote: My daughter's doctor told us today that the only diet that's been proven to help Crohn's is The Maker's Diet. For example, he's big on coconut oil and there's no coconut oil in the bible. It's more traditional - eat the way your ancestors did. The religious part seems likeconvenience, i.e., a catchy way to market it. Mara

Guest guest
The Idea of the Makers Diet is to eat more like the Essene people which were born Jewish but practiced differently.. They were big on sprouting among other things.. Jordan Rubin cleverly combined different schools of thought to make his diet and used shock tactics to sell product. I think he failed to really go into good accurate detail what people do when they are super ill when they cannot take supplements and eat things like whole nuts. This to me is why his protocol are for already recovered and healthy people. Jodi SCD 13 months Crohn's/Colitis

LOL! I'd like to know where he got that notion from. There aren't any cooking manuals left over in the Dead Sea Scrolls! That is, if the Essenes were the same as the people who buried the Dead Sea Scrolls. And I really doubt that phus mentioned anything about their desire to eat sprouted seeds. There's all kinds of things we know about them - but not that, to the best of my knowledge. It would be a funny thing, though. A sect of pre-Rabbinic Judaism that split off based, in part, on their desire to eat sprouted seeds. Reminds me of the bloody sectarian struggles in Gulliver's Travels, based on which side of the egg was the correct one to crack open - the narrow point or the wider end. They were really big on walking far outside the ambit of their settlement to use toilet facilities, however. That's described in the literature and the structure has been identified, the appropriate distance outside of the camp, by archaeologists, to drag this vaguely back on topic. Guest guest
Jordan Rubin writes many times about the SCD in books he wrote prior to the Maker's Diet book. In the older books he acknowledges that the SCD is effective for Crohn's symptoms, and will put most people in remission. As a Crohnie, who speaks with many people attempting to control Crohn's with diet, I can tell you that people strictly following the SCD claim the most success. In my personal experience, I can achieve remission on the SCD better and faster than with the Maker's Diet, and can maintain remission fairly well with the Maker's Diet. I have much better luck with the SCD.
