Also is there any place that might do BBQ in those areas that might be SCD. I was thinking Prime Rib might be a possibility. Thanks Prime rib seasoning almost always has sugar in it. Smoked meat seasoning almost always has sugar in it. BBQ sauce for sure had sugar in it. If they don't have sugar, it's probably high fructose corn syrup. Stick with a plain steak without seasoning. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Hi Aiazeen, I live in Austin. I don't eat out much, and when I do, I usually go for breakfast (eggs) or dinner (fish). I doubt you'd find SCD-safe BBQ. My favorite places for breakfast are Kerby Lane Cafe, where I get eggs fried in oil, plus a side of veggies, or Hyde Park Bar and Grill, where I also get eggs/veggies. I've gotten plain fish dinners at the South Congress Cafe, Asti, the Woodland, Hyde Park Bar and Grill, and Cafe Josie (where they made a great meal just for me because it's pricey!). Feel free to ask more specific questions. CD 11 years SCD nearly 2 years > > Does anyone know of any restaurants in the Houston on Austin, TX area > that might be SCD friendly? Guest guest
Here is a link to some more restaurants on a website written by a woman in Austin. It details what in particular you can eat at these restaurants. Matt's El Rancho and Threadgills are old Austin favorites. http://www.austinscdfriends.com/articles/article/3691416/53799.htm 14 yo son w. Guest guest
Hi Aiazeen, I live in Austin. I met a waiter who works at 's in Austin. It is one of the best restaurants in Austin. I asked about how they accommodate special diets. He said they are happy to accommodate special diets and requests. Cleaning the grill or using a fresh pan is no problem. He encouraged me to come. He said a good way to try the restaurant is to come to happy hour where certain dishes are half price. Here's their website: http://jeffreysofaustin.com/index.php?page=pages/home.html & menu_id=1 Austin is the world headquarters of Whole Foods. The mothership of them all is in Downtown Austin at 6th Street and Lamar. It's a fun place to stroll through and look at all the goodies. Lots of cheeses and fresh fruits. I can always find something that I can eat from the prepared hot and cold foods. Usually I get grilled flank steak and grilled veggies and fresh fruit. Prepared foods have ingredients displayed in the case, so no guessing at what you're getting. They also have smoked meats in this store but I don't know if they are legal. As for barbecue, Louie Mueller's is well known in Austin for having great barbecue. The pitmaster at Mueller's is apparently a purist and uses only salt and pepper on the brisket. Mueller's is actually a little north of Austin. You probably need to call ahead. They run out of barbecue on Friday nights and the weekends. Here's their website: http://www.louiemuellerbarbecue.com/ You don't have to eat out to have a good time in Austin. If you like live music, then this is your place. Austin is the " Live Music Capitol of the World. " Probably a little overstated, but as in NYC or LA where all the waiters are actors, in Austin the waiters are in bands. " About.com " has a good selection of websites about Austin music at: http://austin.about.com/od/livemusic/Live_Music_Venues.htm Have a great time in Texas. The weather is beautiful now. Coolish at night and 70's during the day. Hook 'em Horns! CD 30+ years > > Does anyone know of any restaurants in the Houston on Austin, TX area > that might be SCD friendly?
