I understand, I wish I knew. Hypo causes malabsorption. Heavy periods? HCL may help, taking iron on an empty stomach, vitamin C, make sure not to take it with calcium. Eating iron rich foods. Internal bleeding may be an issue but I doubt it. I had tests to see if I had blood in my stool which was negative. I think once unhypo, the gut should absorb iron better. If you do get an IV, it's not permanant and levels will go back down within a few months if still hypo or if the problem causing the malabsorption is still there. I think it would be a good idea to supplement with iron after the IV to MAYBE keep levels up.on, 1/11/10, miri.yum1 wrote:From: miri.yum1

I'm athinking: if my body is not utilizing the iron I am consuming, how about getting to the underlying reason as opposed to iron IV, which seems to me applying a short-term solution to a long-term issue.

Do you get my question? I'd love to understand this fully before going ahead with venofer treatment.

Also, would anyone know if there is a connection between body's inability to tolerate carbohydrates and low iron levels.

Thanks!

The underlying issue os low T3. Low thyroid causes low ferritin but with

low ferritin your body cannot tolerate nbor USE thyrodi hormones

correctly. The tick is to bring them up to gether SLOWLy as it takes a

LOONG time to raise Ferritn by oral supplements. It si hard to absorb

adn hard to hold onto until you get nenough to be able to raise the T3

which will allow oyu to hold onto it better.

Just what I think I've learned:You need T3 in your cells to be able to absorb iron properly. When we're hypo, like we'renow, the body doesn't absorb iron very well. That's why we have to take big doses of it.100-200-300-400 mgs of it. I am currently taking 125 mg iron daily, hoping (!) my body willabsorb some of it. The more it absorbs, the better T3 works, and the better T3 works, the more iron will be absorbed. So it's like a.. Wheel of fortune! IF it works. That's whyiron IV is the best shot at getting Ferritin up, cause the iron won't have the be absorbed. It goes directly into the blood and into the cells.

Boy do I feel dumb now! :) Haha.. I just wrote approximately what you wrote withouteven reading your post first, Val. Anyway. I learned it from You! :)So it is absolutely impossible to get iron poisoning when taking 100++ mg doses ofiron, Val? When the Ferritin is low?

Hi

It is perfectly safe. Just get tested every couple of months and you will be fine.
