Guest guest
Hi Sal, I'm looking into LDN myself- It's best to take it when not on Prednisone since LDN acts is an immuno-modulator and Prednisone is an immuno-suppresant. With that said, a recent study that they are conducting for Crohn's and LDN allows people on 10mg of Pred into the study. People take the LDN with a higher dosage of Pred but the worry is it cancels the LDN out and deems it ineffective... But people start it anyway especially on the lower doses which is closer to what the body naturally produces. Being on SCD you are so on the right track and I would try the LDN with the diet and see how you're doing. You can always try the 6MP. Just looking at it from a medical risk point of view I would tend to think that it would be better to try the thing with the least amount of side effects you can always graduate to something stronger. My personal story with 6MP is not a happy one so perhaps my point of view is a little colored due to that. But I have been on 6MP, Remicade, 5ASA's and more. Guest guest
Hi Sal, I had to go on 6 MP to get off the Prednisone, My problem was that I loved the Prednisone. It would take 20 years of ageing off of me. But when I came off of the Prednisone, I would go into a flare again.... I too did not like the thought of going on the 6MP. I started with 50mgs (2 pills) and went through a rough transition getting off the Prednisone but I am now in the clear and am down to 25 mgs an my own suggestion. I was going to stop all together but thru the convincing of my doctor I stayed at the 25mgs for now. I plan on going thru a lot of stress in my near future and he felt it was better to play it safe. Keep in mind when you come off the Pred. you may have some reaction. mine was symmetrical skin rashes or dry spots on my arms, legs, and torso. A Dermatologist told me he had seen this with other patients who had UC and had come off Pred., He gave me a tube of cream and within a few weeks in was gone. He said it was your body taking its time to remanufacture the missing drugs that your body stops making while you take Pred. If you have anymore questions don't hesitate to ask. All The Best, Lou Has anybody done 6-MP along with SCD, or as a transient treatment for UC? GI's follow the if-it-ain't-broke-don't-fix-it approach, which would have me on 6-MP permanently...Thanks for any responses!-SalAOL Search: Your one stop for directions, recipes and all other Holiday needs. Guest guest
I would personally try ldn before 6mp. I had three remicade infusions and had terrible side affects with each one. I have issues with my monthly cycle and as soon as that came around I had the crohn's issues again and it was just two weeks since the last infusion. I started LDN 1.5mgs last week and so far so good. I go to 3mgs this week and 4.5 the next. I just had bad issues with asacol, sulfasalazine, prednisone, and remicade. LDN seems to have the least side affects and lowest dosage. I'm hoping it keeps everything in check as this month rolls around. You have to wean down to 10mgs of prednisone before starting the ldn as far as I know.
