Guest guest
Hi Elana, NO you're not the only one that feels that way. I've been walking around with a fruit salad inside of me for the past 10 years. So don't feel like the lone ranger. Your 9.9 cm fibroid is probably a little larger than a grapefruit. Do you have bad symptoms? I have 5 fibroids ranging in size from 7.1 to 3.3. I'm trying to hold out for researchers to find a way to shrink these without surgery. I've been able to hold off with surgery by using herbal remedies. I'm 44 years old and want to keep my utereus. Believe it or not, my biggest issue is that my bottom tummy sticks out too much. I used to be a model and I had to stop because my weight was affected. I'm 5'11 and weigh 130 (I know I'm thin) but my bottom tummy was looking like I was pregnant so I had to look for other means to support myself. Hang in there. This board is a wealth of info. Look under the archieves for alternatives to hysterectormy.
Guest guest
I really hate these fruit analogies. I think that they make women become more alarmed about the size of their fibroids than they need to be. Possibly making it easier for the doctor to talk you into a hysterectomy?? Instead of guessing at " fruit size " which of course is highly variable (think Texas size grapefruit) try converting your measurements to inches. Since there are 2.54 cm in an inch your 8.5 cm fibroid is 3.36 inches, which would be a rather undersized grapefruit. Your 4 cm fibroid is 1.57 inches, I don't know what you would call that in fruit size. So your " fruit basket " probably isn't anywhere near as large as your doctor is making it out to be. > Hello again- > > One doctor told me that an 8.5 cm fibroid was comparable in size to a large > grapefruit. > > Now that I know one of my fibroids is 9.9 cm and the other is 4 cm, I wonder > if anyone knows what size FRUIT that would compare to? Guest guest
Hi Elana, This might help a little. Pea = 1cm or 3/8 " walnut = 3cm or 1-3/16 " lemon = 5.5cm or 2-3/16 " apple/pear = 7.5cm or 3 " orange = 9cm or 3-1/2 " grapefruit = 11.5cm or 4-1/2 " I found this information at: http://www.fibroiduae.com/fibro5.htm#anchor66303 Shari
