Reusables seem so > endlessly complicated, so much experimenting, Yes I'm afraid I opted for the simpler option of disposables too! However, now I have a pretty much potty trained 2 and 9 month old I am looking for some reusable trainer pants that will fit, M'care and Boots only had to fit up to 18 months! I live rather in the middle of nowhere and thus often have sleeping DD in the back of car. (I have washed seat cover once,it is a real pain to get on/off and dry!). She hates having it lined with a towel because she likes to climb in and out, I hate having to lift her since I'm pregnant! Huggies pull ups work a treat, but they are horribly pricey the cheaper Tescos ones leak). Both are designed to tear off when soiled which makes them prone to rip if DD tries to pull them up or down herself and it really narks me having to throw them away unused (even if that is the name of the game.) So if anyone knows of something reasonably absorbent that DD can handle herself I'd really like to know about it.
Guest guest
> looking for some reusable trainer pants that will fit, M'care and Boots only had to fit up to 18 months I have some Mothercare reuseable trainer pants, which in my local store go up to 3 or 4 years old size. My son (2 years and 2 months) is actually in their 'small' size, which is meant for 12-18 months, I think. They aren't incredibly absorbent though, I'd say they would absorb maybe 'one wee'! >Huggies pull ups work a treat, but they are horribly pricey I too used Huggies at first, but not only were they expensive, they 'stayed dry' which I reasoned doesn't teach the child anything. I looked into Kooshies, etc and they are about £7 - £8 each, but I ended up getting the Mothercare ones (above). I reckon the Kooshies trainer pants would be better if you needed a more absorbent pant (for your car journeys) and also they are available mail order (as you don't live near big stores). When my DD was going through this stage we 'made' her a cushion. Actually it was a cushion cover with a couple of (well 3, quarter folded) terries inside. A towel would have worked just as well. She didn't twig that it was to 'catch' anything, so we never had to go through the 'we know you can hold on but we don't trust you too' stuff. It saved the car seat on a couple of occasions (long journeys/sleep), but was flat enough that it didn't interfere with the harness/fit-of- child. I have to admit we had a bit of a job persuading her to give it up - did it by removing the insides over the course of a week. It now does duty as a book bag for journeys. -- Helen Armfield
