Guest guest
Have many people done stool testing via alternative labs - for 'bad' bacteria, parasites, yeast, etc.? My naturopath is recommending that I have this done, and I am trying to decide between Genova (formerly Great Smokies) and Metametrix, which uses a different technology (DNA testing for parasites in stool). The tests are $300-500, so I don't want to do more than one, and I want to pick the right one the first time around. http://www.genovadiagnostics.com/index.php?option=com_gpanel & Itemid=2 & task=view & \ id=4 http://gifx.metametrix.com/ I'd welcome your advice, opinions, and experience! Thanks, Christy Crohn's since 1999 SCD since 3/08 Asacol, prednisone (still tapering)
Guest guest
Hi Christy, You should join Healing Crow- if you're not there already. This topic is constantly discussed on list. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/HealingCrow/ There are extensive archives there. Genova is what most people do and that is a lab that generally understands the SCD. Metametrix is a little different in that respect- politically etc. I did the Urine Dysbiosis from Metametrix- it is informative WHEN using with the stool results. Alone it's extremely vague. Most times we need to do back up tests with some of this gut pathogen/parasite/bacteria testing.. Like Various salaiva tests, anascope (rectal swab) etc. I was just advised to redo my stool tests AGAIN as it is very important to do it with the purge- although illegal and will make us sick it is the only way certain microbes will be forced to shed into the samples. at HC is super knowledgeable as to how and what meds to kill these critters!! She has been personally helping me out figure out how I should proceed etc. As a person who has been dealing with this for a couple of years now- I'd say read the archives over there!! Jodi SCD 11 months Crohn's/Colitis I was just able to submit some of these tests on an out of network basis to my insurance. Maybe you have that option? Also, remember- certain meds, activated charcoal and probiotics skew stool results. Not sure what Prednisone does. > > Have many people done stool testing via alternative labs - for 'bad' > bacteria, parasites, yeast, etc.?
