Guest guest
You can get good amount of Vitamin D from Cod Liver Oil. If you take that- that's great but you need to look into D3 as well (which is from sunshine) that is super important! I got a liquid D3. I think the docs said that for every 1,000 IU's, you should expect your D level to go up by 10 ng/mL..? -Sal UC - Jun-2007 SCD - Oct-2008
Guest guest
You really should get your Vitamin D level tested ( " Vitamin D, 25-Hydroxy " is the name of the blood test) before adding a Vitamin D supplement; it is toxic in large amounts when taken as a supplement, but not if you get it from sunlight. I was taking 2000 mg (1000 in my Multi-Vit and 1000 in my Calcium supplement)and I still tested low at 23. Normal range is 32 - 100. Then I added another 2000 mg/day for 6 weeks and the level came up to 44. I'll probably stay at 3000 or 4000, year-round - I don't seem to get that much sun even in the summer - but get retested in a few months. Guest guest
I take CLO a.m. and p.m. but mercola said don't do more than that unless monitored so I stopped the D3???? - but that's a totally different kind than I get from CLO???? nothings easy!!! eileen -- In BTVC-SCD , " jodah235 " wrote: > > You can get good amount of Vitamin D from Cod Liver Oil. > If you take that- that's great but you need to look into D3 as well > (which is from sunshine) that is super important! Guest guest
Eileen, Quest, LabCorp and I forget the others now are pretty much the same- so please do not pay out of pocket. Get the Quest- it's better than nothing. I never heard that these labs are bad when it comes to testing vitamins etc.. Guest guest
I saw it on mercola.com - he specified not to go to them - but I hate to pay too - do you still stay in touch with hoffman?? do you think they'd tell you if I have to stop taking my CLO and D vit's before testing? my doc says no but that makes no sense - feel like i'll get a false result - he didn't tell me to stop selenium before either - thank God I read that you have to for accurate results - how are you feeling??? better I hope eileen > > > > I have quest and heard they are not to be trusted for D levels??? > > thanks - maybe i'll just pay out of pocket for Labcorp >
Guest guest
Eileen, Yeah, I go to the Hoffman Center often. I also get routine blood work and IV's there. They have never told me to stop Vitamin D or D3 and CLO before Vitamin D blood test. They are pretty on top of that stuff although I have learned not to put complete trust in doctors anyway. I have caught the Hoffman center in many mistakes already.. Also the on Center (both places are qualified comparing to others and I am thankful) but like take on they wanted to give me a B12 shot before my blood test??? It makes sense supplementation would skew results but I would imagine that you would need to be on it quite a while for it to significantly skew. That's just my opinion though I could be totally wrong.. Sheila would probably know something like this. Obviously, I am speaking in general as many things have immediate skewing capabilities like if one takes antibiotics or probiotics before a stool test etc.. Main stream labs are pathetic.. But they are a decent tool to give us some info- the question is when it is dangerously low or dangerously high- relying on this is iffy. Also, it is important to test some other things along with Vitamin D because there are different components to these things that are inter-connected. Dr Hoffman himself has his own private lab for testing as he thinks some of the methodologies are much more accurate. With that said he still uses many types of labs including mainstream for various things. Why does Mercola not like Quest and likes LabCorp better? Is it due to the fact that LabCorp will test many more things that Quest won't? Or is it that their testers use different ways of measuring/looking/rating the blood (I forget what this is called?) Guest guest
thansk - he says they're not accurate and that they have no intention of chnaging their " measuring ways " can't think of the word eithrt - but specified Labcorp eileen > > Eileen, > > Yeah, I go to the Hoffman Center often.
