Guest guest
I just wanted to say Hi as I am new to the group. I have eargerly read others posts and the files and am amazed to learn that so many other people are dealing with the same health issues that I am. It is also a bit frustrating to think that despite being under the care of an Endo for several years none of these concepts or treatment options were presented by him. Long and short about my life: I am 42y.o and have been dealing with long standing issues of fatigue, hair loss, amenorhhea for 20+years, low body temps, (getting to 97 is a great day), weight loss difficulty (I eat low carb and exercise daily), more recently had been having difficulty with digesting (very bloated after eating) lower extremity water retention and muscle cramps some of which has been alleviated since taking calcium/potassium/magnesium daily and also oddly enough in increasing my sodium intake. I was obese as a child, anorexic/bulimic in teens stopped menstruating (never had regular cycles and the cessation was blamed upon eating disorder despite the fact that after the resolution of eatign disorder and returning to baseline overweight status my periods never returned.) Surprise surprise I had my first spontaneous period at age 41 after being started on Cytomel. MD's had always treated me with hormone therapy as opposed to thyroid despite symtoms.....very frustrating. I am so thrilled to find a group such as this to help understanding this process but how does one engage their physician as well?? I have contacted my MD to order labs (including Fasting Leptin) and he was amenable so will be getting these done soon.....but he is extremely conservative in regards to treatment protocols under dosing more often than not. Example he started me on 5mcg Cytomel and after 8 months had finally increased this to 10mcg. I guess I am solicting ideas on how others have adressed this not-unique issue with their physicians and of course any other ideas or suggestion that might be relevant. Thansk so much!! Some of us have given up with the Drs and taken responsibility for our own health. Most Drs are more interested in treating numbers rather than how you feel. The best Drs for treating Hypo are ones who are hypo themselves and have found that standard treatment (as in their training) does not work for them. Guest guest
Nick, what you wrote is plaque-worthy: "The best Drs for treating Hypo are ones who are hypo themselves andhave found that standard treatment (as in their training) does notwork for them" This might be a place to start when interviewing prospective docs To: RT3_T3 Sent: Sun, January 17, 2010 11:43:10 AMSubject: Re: Light bulb moment and intro > Example he started me on 5mcg Cytomel and after 8 months had finally increased this to 10mcg. >I guess I am solicting ideas on how others have adressed this not-unique issue with their physicians and of course any other ideas or suggestion that might be relevant. Some of us have given up with the Drs and taken responsibility for ourown health.
