Hello, I'm looking for suggestions regarding applying for disability. We just were told that a merger is possible and I might be losing my job of 27 years. I have thought about applying in the past but have put it off and struggled continueing to work but maybe it is now time to think about it. My Doctor says he has patients better off than me that are on disability but I understand it is not easy and it can take a long time. I would like to hear from anyone who knows about this process.

Thank you, Don

I didn't look too hard but I found this link to the Arthritis Foundation. Scroll to the last subject on the page.

http://www.arthritis.org/conditions/SupplementGuide/herbs_a_c.asp There's a lot of it for sale even if it doesn't seem to be effective. God bless.

Subject: Chicken Protein?

There was a study about 12 years ago that talked of the benefits of chicken protein...mainly cartilage that seemed to have a positive effect on RA patients. Does anyone know if further studies were done or if you have had any benefits or not from this? The protein is in a product called RheumaShield that I have found.

Yes,

I took RheumaShield for a while. It was great stuff. I have a copy of the study and it has rather technical termanology for me. I got it thru my alternative doc. I could see the difference very quickly.

Sherrie, thanks for your response...If it took a year how did you pay the bills during that time? What is your situation if I may ask? Have you had any hip or knee replacements? How long have you had RA?

Thanks, Don

Don if you're referring to the Arthritis Today article, it's on the

website at

http://www.arthritis.org/resources/arthritistoday/2004_archives/2004_

11_12/2004_11_12_disability_1.asp

Something to consider - since you are currently working, do you have

disability insurance through work? Often that is easier to qualify

for, and kicks in more quickly than social security disability. At

some point in time the insurance company will help you file for the

govt program and usually will reduce the benefit they pay you by the

amount you get from the gov't.

Good luck

Beth

Don,

I received short term (1 year) disability while on chemo. It takes persistence and lots and lots of good notes and complete history. Also a letter from your doctor stating his/her reasons you should be receiving disability.

Can you get retirement from your company?
