Guest guest
Hi Amy My sister was in the same boat. She has never taken any thyroid medication. But I got her tested and her reverse t3 ratio was only 9.5. So she immediately went on t3. She also was treating her ferritin levels for about six weeks while waiting for her results to come back. My sister is getting her thyroid labs for the first time soon and I'm wondering if we can prevent the whole RT3 issue like I had before she even gets in to it. In other words, would she have to start with something like Armour if her labs indicate hypo or are there signs of RT3 issues that might show up right away and would she just start with something like Cynomel? She can try to get her ferretin tested too.Amy See what's on at the movies in your area. Find out now.

Erfa or Greater Pharma from preference to Armour. If the RT3 is high then straight onto Cynomel seems the best plan. Nick

Guest guest
Nick... I use Thyroid-S... would that be ok for my sister in place of Erfa or Greater Pharma (if RT3 is low, that is)? Been using that for a year and no side effects. Guest guest
I actually started on cytomel before I tried naturethroid. I was on cytomel for 7 years (roughly) then I switched to naturethroid and had a bad reaction, discovering the RT3 problem. I have conflicting feelings that I will share with you: On one hand, part of me worries that the RT3 problem was because my body was used to T3 only, and I switched to T4 and T3, so my body reacted against the T4. On the other hand, I needed far less T3 before the resistance problem than I do now. I need 4X as much cytomel now to get the same free T3 numbers in my labs that I had before I tried naturethroid. So this makes me wish I had never taken naturethroid at all, because I would rather take less T3 and have my body use it more efficiently. It tells me that I did not have a resistance problem til after trying the naturethroid So, hope that helps! Liz
