Guest guest
Hi , I've been at this for about 5 years. Sigh, has it really been that long? Of course, much of that was before I found this group. I think the t3 is getting into my cells at present. I meant in the past when it wasn't. And actually, this happened to me again only a few weeks ago, because I went up on t3 too fast (for me anyway). I think I blew right on by my sweet spot or at least caused more stress than my adrenals could handle. I helt MORE hypo and I swelled up. I took some extra HC for a couple of days, but it didn't help too much. Like you, I can't take as much HC anymore, which I think is a good sign! But I am still on about 15 mg. Anyway, when I felt so hypo and was swelling, I just had to experiment because I wasn't sure if I was on too much or too little HC, but my gut said too much because the more I took, the worse I felt and I was retaining so much water, which is for me always a sign the t3 isn't getting into the cells. Taking extra HC didn't seem to help much and I think made me feel almost worse even. So I just cut my t3 almost in half and THEN it started to get into the cells because I felt the hypo lifting and the edema all went away. So basically I am sort of starting over at this point and going slowly now to see if and when I need to raise the t3. I am not sure if my schedule will help you, it has been so crazy and I am not on that much t3 at all. I am only on 37.5 mcg Cynomel right now, lol. I was all over the place the past few months as high as 112 t3 and 5 mg HC due sudden severe headaches(long story, which I'm sure you don't want to hear...) So ANYWAY, I basically had to start all over again, so I'm only on this low dose, but in all honesty, I don't think I am going to need a lot of t3. That's just me, but Val told me Dr. Lowe's exwife only takes 50 mcg so there are people out there who don't need as much. So I'm actually still experimenting with timing of doses, etc. I was doing the bedtime dose, but honestly it didn't seem to work for me and I unfortunately do better with small doses spread out, so right now I'm dosing every 2 and 1/2 hour or 5 times a day. Hopefully I won't have to do that forever. I've been through the wringer, too. I kept going off t3 due to issues that made me think I was on too much (which probably was not the case). At one point, a doc had me on too much progesterone, and I got all sweaty and having panic attacks, which I thought were the t3 when likely was PG blocking cortisol from getting to receptors or turning into too much cortisol. And then I found out I have latent viruses which was probably making me feel hot and sweaty all the time, too, and giving me a ton of adrenal stress, so that I had to take so much HC to tolerate the t3, I got scared and came off the t3 so I could get down on the HC. So, yeah, it's a very long story! Only now, after starting to address the infections and my adrenals seemed to have healed a bit do I think I can finally find the right amount of t3 for me and actually stay on it. Oh, about the bloating, I don't think I'm the only one. I think I have read other posts on it. Have you tried the advanced search on this board? Mine was not only unsightly, it was downright painful! I don't know what was up that, but it seemed to just go away as I reduced HC and got up on t3. (Remember, I wasn't on any t3 for a while.) I am pretty certain yours will resolve, too. For what it's worth, I tend to bloat any time I have gone off thyroid meds, so maybe the adjustment of the meds can cause it, too. Just a thought. Hope you feel better today. Let me know how you do on the reduce t3 dose. Kathleen > > Thanks again Kathleen. I do appreciate the extra recommendations and the help to try to figure out the situation.  My situation is so long and drawn out because of the meds I was taking months back and what I am presently taking. I think that I am going to back off the T3 few the next few days and see how I do.  I'm thinking that my adrenals have undergone some healing and I just need to find that T3 spot.  I would say that I have gradually weaned off the HC over this past month and a half and I weaned at about 2.5mg per week.  I don't think it was too fast.  I think with the real HC my adrenals did very well vs the SR and they were able to get some relief. > We went out tonight to visit friends and I am late getting my last bedtime dose of T3....I have very little back pain right now which seems to tell me something.  I really think that I must just be taking too much T3. Tomorrow I think I will back off the T3 and see how it goes. > > When you said this.. " I know what you are thinking -- do I need even more t3 or is not getting to my cells and that's why the labs were so high? "  That is exactly what I was thinking....there is that fine line and it's tough to figure it all out. >  > When you say that the T3 is not getting into your cells, what schedule are you on at present?  It is good to talk to people with similar situations. It can sometimes be a big help.  I've been at this a while and I do understand so much more than I ever thought I would thanks to Val.  How long have you been at this?  You are the only person that I have come across that has had problems with the bloating too.  I don't feel any discomfort within my stomach...it is just this high hard abdominal swelling where I can't even bend at the waist. So strange and sort of isolated. >  > Thanks again for your concern and comments. I wish you continued luck too. >  > >  > >
Guest guest
YES, if your adrenals are stable, then why wouldn't your temperature be constant and steady from a chronic infection??? > > > > >I > know. Guest guest
Thanks again Kathleen for sharing your story. Looking back I know that I have most likely had adrenal issues first and then Hypo-T developing more than 10 years. I just didn't realize until it was too late and things were really bad. I think I am dealing with the same issues as you in so far as somehow missing my sweet spot. And I have really been curious about this swelling situation. Knowing now that you and Venezia have both had this happen and can relate it to the HC is a puzzle solved. I had been experimenting with both the T3 and the HC and figured it was the HC. I will just continue experimenting and see if I can find that spot. I take estrogen, progesterone, testosterone and DHEA so I know that all this has to fall into place as well. Hey, I've hung in this long. I'm not about to let it go to the wayside at this point.I did cut my bedtime dose of T3 last night and I seem to be doing a little better today. Thanks for asking. Thanks again for sharing your story with me. I wish you continued improvement! Hi ,I've been at this for about 5 years. Sigh, has it really been that long? Guest guest
, I am also very interested in adrenal support that is not HC. How much to you pay per bottle (# pills per bottle) for your adrenal supplement? I think Metagenics sells a similar product which you can order on-line from the Professional Supplement Center with free shipping. The ingredient is "dessicated bovine" and 3 pills of Metagenics seems to be equivalent to what you are taking. It is $17 for a bottle of 90 pills. Just want to make sure I am comparing apples to apples. Guest guest
Hi Beth, I have taken a product in the past called "Adrenal Rebuilder" by Future Formulations. It is a combination with porcine adrenal, gonadal, hypothalmus and pituitary concentrate. It is about $35.00 for a bottle of 90 caps. I have used it in the past and really did not get much relief from the product but it was also during a time when I most likely need something stronger like the HC. But, just recently I tried it again and it made me sort of jittery....could be that I was using HC and Isocort at the time as well. Maybe overkill. The product that Venezia was telling me about is Standard Process Dessicated adrenal. Itis Bovine adrenal and I found it on the internet for about $12.00 for a bottle of 90. I ordered a bottle today and will give it a try. I have used some Metagenic's product but never the adrenal supplements you are talking about. Hope this helps. Guest guest
Thanks Venizia....I ordered some today. I'll give it a try and see if it helps. Hi ,The adrenal I am taking is not a prescription but I am not sure every pharmacy would carry it. I get mine at a compounding pharmacy which they store behind the counter. This is the companies on line link: standardprocess. com. Here is another link from standard process which gives info on dessicated adrenal: <http://www.standard process.com/ display/Standard ProcessCatalog. spi?ID=7> Venizia From: keickholt13 <keickholt13@ comcast.net>Subject: Re: T3 "pooling"To: RT3_T3yahoogroups (DOT) comDate: Saturday, January 23, 2010, 11:42 PM ,Did you feel well on 100 even though the ft3 was high? Guest guest
Hope it DOES help . I know you have had a difficult time for a long time. The bottle says take 2 a day but remember my doctor has me taking 6 between 7 and 8 am. So keep that in mind.My adrenals showed on the saliva test that I was low in the a.m. and I am amazed at how much better I feel in the morning now. I was NEVER a morning person and this is probably why.Let us know how you do with it.Venizia From: keickholt13 <keickholt13@ comcast.net>Subject: Re: T3 "pooling"To: RT3_T3yahoogroups (DOT) comDate: Saturday, January 23, 2010, 11:42 PM ,Did you feel well on 100 even though the ft3 was high? Guest guest
Venizia....I will let you know how I do with the product and I am so glad that you are doing so much better. I think you and I started with Val about the same time and I am so glad to hear that you are doing better. Thanks for chiming in and letting me know about the adrenal product. I am anxious to give it a try because I am not a morning person either....but I sure would like to be. I hope your Son is doing alright these days. I listened to Dr. Lowe on "Shoe Talk" and heard your call. Thanks again for being there and for the advice. It is very appreciated. Guest guest
Knew what you meant My son sees an endo Feb. 1st. Not happy about seeing an endo but I guess we will start there. I will be going with him which he was NOT happy about but I told him I know what to ask AND what to look out for. He really needs to do something. His neck is getting bigger and bigger. Dr Lowe suggested it might be related to Cushing's I sure hope not. I have a friend that dealt with that and it was very unpleasant....she had surgery on her pituitary.I missed last weeks show and I have been planning on listening to the taped version and just have not had the time. Gotta do it this week!! Guest guest
Again, Thanks! I'll keep you and your son in my prayers. I would be the same way, in fact my daughter has problems and I go with her to her Dr. everytime. I wasted too many years not knowing what to do or that I even had a problem. I feel it's my responsibility to help them, whether they like it or not. Good luck to you at the Endo's. Please keep me posted. Wishing the best for you and your son as well.
