Guest guest
Hi Kate, You're not going to like this answer. But, all of this takes time In my mind there is absolutely no question that bad bacteria and the relationship with IBS. It's promising that you felt better initially taking the antibiotics. I have been through this yoyo as well and it is deeply discouraging when we go back to square one after the abx care. It also helps to understand that some of these critters work cyclically. Plus throw in the whole idea of biofilms and you can start understanding why some of these bad bugs are just so stubborn to eradicate. Most of us also have to deal with Candida issues as well on top of this. I think what your mom said to you is %110 true. The line " keep it simple stupid " comes to mind. Not that you're stupid, not at all. It's just hard to know with all of the anti-fungals and supplements you are doing what is helping and what isn't and what is irritating your situation. What are you eating these days? Sometimes it helps to look at it from that angle. I would tend to think the following is suspect and even illegal; Enteric coated probiotics. What brand? Which company? What are the ingredients? Which probiotic species is in it? On the SCD we are only allowed Acidophilous and S. Boulardii. Bifidus can cause havoc for us IBD'ers. I don't know of any legal enteric coated probiotic. Which brand of S. Boulardii are you taking? Vitamineral Green. Not sure what this is? Please post about the ingredients, brand etc. Also, capsule/tablet composition. I also think Kombucha is not something you should be doing. I know some people use it but it is so advanced and many of them on the market are illegal from what I remember. Please post all of your supplements with the ingredients and one of us can help you know if it is legal or not. Including the GSE and -everything- you are taking. I had terrible bouts of vomiting for years before SCD out of nowhere it would come and I would spew for hours on end. Some nights I would be up half the night. The nausea and belching and smells were horrendous. I know what you are talking about on that level and the rotten eggs smell. It is so putrid and mortifying. I have had many setbacks on the diet but the vomiting is totally gone. GONE!! The bouts of nausea are present but I hope over time this will get better too. Stay strong- you're on the right track with many knowledgeable people and fellow sufferers. Jodi SCD 13 months Crohn's/Colitis
Guest guest
Hi Kate, I suddenly developed that smelly burp phenomenon you mentioned at about 3 months on the diet. I started taking Bacillus clausii and it helped immediately. Here it's called Enterogermina, I don't know if that is available where you live. You can check out some studies on this pro-biotic and it's effects on CD, very good results. I also take acidolphilis and S. boulardi, but the clausii works much better and faster for me. Hope this helps. I feel terrible, I haven't even written back to the messages I gotwith my last post and here I am indulgently writing another... Ielected to get notified of each email to the group rather than thedigest, see, and my inbox was buried before I knew it. I still can'tfind the things I meant to respond to. To the mom who's son needs aneffective dosage of rifaximin: I have nothing to tell you. My doctorknows nothing so I am experimenting using Dr. Pimental's "A New IBSSolution" book.I have burped three times in the last hour and all three have smelledlike rancid rotten eggs. These belches are what haunt me, I'm not allthat sick really I just smell like a trash can. It's so mortifying. I just finished round two of antibiotics because they worked like acharm when I tried them the first time, but three weeks later thesmell was back. And, after this self-prescribed second round to killit again, the smell returns in three days. I don't know what to do.Consequently I am throwing everything I can think of at the bacteriaovergrowth problem. S. boulardii, enteric coated probiotics, GSE,peppermint, Vitamineral Green, today and yesterday I've been enjoyingKombucha tea and loving it. Here is my question: is there such athing as too much good stuff? Probably, right? My mom says keep itsimple, and let your natural balance return unhindered. But that'snever worked before why would it work now??Sorry guys, this was more a rant than anything. I am terrified. Because it is back. I have no defenses. Darn it.Kate
