Guest guest
Just got an sms from my GP! Yup, he is that nice to me! On a SATURDAY and all.Ferritin: 64I took my last dose of 75 mg iron on Friday at noon, skipped the evening dose, and didn't take any iron supplement (except naturally what I'd get in food daily) in the next days til Thursday at 11 am, when I took the blood sample. The blood was analyzed the very same day and the result was ready the next day at 4 pm. That was yesterday. I got the result today, just right now. This can only mean, and please correct me if I'm wrong, that the 150 mg amino chelated iron I was taking actually worked! And get this: I started taking 25 mg iron only in October/November, on and off, and didn't take iron on a steady daily basis until December. I have increased my iron from December til last week, from 25 mg daily up to 150 mg daily. But I was only on 150 mg for 2-3 days before I stopped takin iron 6 days before the test.It also means that my body is holding onto iron. Am I right? Nick, also Val when she has the time, I would love to hear your comments on this! I feared the worse.. A number down in the 30s.. But I was pleasantly surprised!BTW: My TSH was at 1.6, taken with the Ferritin, and I've NEVER had such a high TSH before, ever. Nick? Do we have the receipt for a change in my T3-doses? Guest guest
That is great news ! It still needs to come up, but it's definitely on it's way there! I bet you will be in the "range" in the next 4-6 weeks! Your body might also be holding onto the iron in the steak you eat every day, as beef as a good amount of iron in it. Did you always eat steak every day, or is this something new in the last few months as well? Guest guest
I have been eating more and more steak almost daily, in the past 3-4 months maybe. I fear, however, that infection can give a false high reading on the Ferritin. But is it likely? When I did take 150 mg iron daily, my Ferritin was 55. After waiting 6 days with no iron supps, Ferritin was 64. Now where is the sense in that?Subject: Re: My first "real" Ferritin results after taking iron! To: RT3_T3 Date: Saturday, January 23, 2010, 4:55 PM Â That is great news ! Hypo and should be able to tolerate the T3. You should be able to go up by 5 a week easily now. You need to carry on supplementing the iron at the same time but once a day should be fine which will be easier with the dosing Nick
Guest guest
There had been more time that passed so maybe your levels were increasing. But like you said, it could be a false high due to an infection/inflammation in your body. I would bite the bullet to get the tonsils taken care of and then see what happens with your ferritin levels. Guest guest
I know I need to keep taking iron. I have added 14 mg iron in my multi vitamin which I take 1 hour after my last T3 dose when I go to bed. To get the copper I need! How much chelated iron would you recommend me taking in the coming time? One thing I find weird is the fact that my iron went up even after I stopped taking it! 6 days before the blood was drawn, I had another Ferritin done at 55. I hope this doesn't mean it's an infection bringing my iron up further? Maybe it's just T3 allowing my body store iron... But that would be iron from food only, consider I only started with my multi vitamin yesterday! >It also means that my body is holding onto iron. Am I right? Guest guest
Why would you stop taking the 150 of iron you were taking. Your level is still below the 70-90 that I have seen Val recommend. So I would think that you would still need to take it to get it a little higher before cutting back. Guest guest
But I can't start taking 150 mg iron at once. I need to dose it slowly up again from 25 mg, right? Also, I think maybe 100 mg iron daily should do it. Considering I am actually absorbing it! I always took it with orange juice and vitamin C.T.>It also means that my body is holding onto iron. Guest guest
I guess see what happens with the 100mg and then if you have to increase it then you can. I am not sure about building it back up. Nick or Val would know better, but I would think you could build it back up within a week. Guest guest
You don't have to work up to 150 mg, you can just start taking that much, at least if you're taking the kind that doesnt' cause problems, like Ferrochel. > > >It also > means that my body is holding onto iron. Guest guest
Ok. Can I start with 50 mg in one dose, let's say before I go to bed? Then up to 75 after a week then 100 after another one?Oh, and as for the T3-updosing: When do you recon I should up another 5 mcg? And when should I do it? Should I turn one of the 5s into 10? Or make even less time between each of the doses I already have and insert another 5 mcg dose somewhere? I now take 5 mcg 5 times daily with HC 5 times daily. There is no limit for how close the HC can be taken with each HC dose? >How much chelated iron would you recommend me taking in the coming time? Guest guest
In a way I feel ready for an increase. Guest guest
Yes, TSH 1.6 (highest ever) was on this dose. I had been on 25 mcg T3 for 3 days before I took the blood sample. I also got FT4 which is 10.6. FT3 and rT3 was sent to another lab to be analyzed together. Ferritin was 64. I have taken 25 mcg T3 daily for 6 days now including today. My average pulse ha gotten a bit higher at 80. Temps still 37.0 C (98.6 F) or possible a little higher at 37.1 sometimes. >Oh, and as for the T3-updosing: When do you recon I should up another 5 mcg?
