Hi Jen,

Welcome to the group, although I'm sorry you have to be here.

You'll find this is a friendly group with people willing to share

their experiences and provide support to each other. I've had RA

for over 6 years, but there are several in the group who are

recently diagnosed.

I'm in the Portland Oregon area - normally at this time of year we

get a lot of rain, but this year it all seems to be heading south to

California, so it's been sunny, but certainly not 80 degrees!

Are you seeing a rheumatologist? If so, I would suggest that as

your next step. Plaquenil is one of the older DMARDs (disease

modifying anti-rheumatic drugs), and for many people it is enough to

keep things under control. If you're starting to have more pain and

stiffness, you may need something stronger, and a rheumatologist is

the best person to evaluate and prescribe that. The good news is

that there are several different drugs available, the bad news is

that it is a trail and error process to find the right ones for you.

Feel free to post any questions or frustrations that you have -

someone will usually answer within a day or so.

Beth

Usually, the next step is methotrexate.
