Was it a very speedy labour, or was the MW just slow? :-) I would love to have a HB; an unassisted HB is my idea of a perfect labour (assuming all is well). >I'm currently reading about fatherhood and finding it very challenging: >I always thought men should be at the birth (DH was a great support >to me), but am now beginning to wonder if it's such a good idea for the >men. Could you please tell us what you have learned ? I know there has been discussion about whether dads should be present during labour - can't recall what the major issue was. Do most men really not want to be present ? Are they often traumatised by seeing childbirth or something ? I'd be interested to hear what you've read on the subject. Cheers. -- Clare Lusher. Guest guest
Hi Jo, >>I recently went on a study day led by Michel Odent and that has stimulated so many new ideas, it is very >>exciting. I always dreamed of giving birth in Pitivier (spelling - can't locate my Birth Reborn book right now) As it was, all my illusions were shattered with induction and emergency caesarean section. And you actually went on a study day led by Michel - I can but smile. Nice to meet you
Guest guest
I had a hospital birth with the first, then two home births. The third baby arrived before the midwife, delivered by DH. A wonderful birth. Jo Trainee ANT, Southend --------------------- Hi Jo welcome I'd love to hear about your unattended home birth, as my 3rd was also unattended and delivered by my DH. Just being nosey. Do tell. :-) Tupman Mum to Matt 13, 10, Jonty 14 months & Phil 35 NCT Houseswap Register Coordinator
Guest guest
My DH has been present at all 4 births, 2 very traumatic and 2 straight forward. The CS (DS1) had no effect on our relationship, though he was quite distressed as no-one explained to him what was going on and he thought DS1 and I were both about to die! DD was born by very traumatic forceps. Lots and lots of blood, hundreds of stitches, perineal infection (need I go on) and this did affect our relationship, which wasn't really sorted until after DS2's quick uncomplicated birth. I offered him not to be there for DS3 but he wouldn't miss it for the world. Having said that, I wouldn't have got through it all without him, but then again, I don't have a female relative or friend who I would have wanted to be there instead and I did need support, so I'm glad he was there. Guest guest
Thanks for that Jo, I suppose I sort of agreed to induction quite willingly as I was VERY big and uncomfortable. I had been having pains from 35 weeks and was only a few days late but Christmas was approaching fast. If only I had been thinking straight at the time, I might have felt I could have left it longer. > Jo. wrote:- > Michel said some controversial things about induction - i.e., you > should leave the woman alone even if that meant she went weeks > overdue unless it was eclampsia ................. You've obviously survived and coping enough to still hold a committee post. I toy with the idea of another but DH thinks I'm mad (I think I'll probably go mad if I had another!). One of the girls from my first antenatal class is now expecting her 4th baby, she has three boys like me (desperately wants a girl and doesn't cut her boys' hair so they look cute and girly). She is marvellously well organised, makes her own jam, decorates the house, keeps chickens and digs the garden on a regular basis. I am awestruck. i've started taking (7 this month) to Beavers and it's so reassuring to be with a bunch of other mothers who have complete tearaways for children! What Playstation game do they like? Tom is into Grand Turismo (Dad's finished with it now) Jo

Guest guest
a husband who works in film & > tv and spends so much time away from home that people think he is a figment > of my imagination. (Last year he was away 50 out of 51 weeks). I know this feeling - both my parents worked in telly (my mum doesn't anymore, dad is still going strong ) and I spent my whole childhood seeing them flit in and out of my life - I saw more of the nannies and au pairs than I did of them - plus my brother was sent to boarding school! It was good fun being taken along to filming though -- and I occasionally got used as an extra. Caroline
