What foods are you currently able to tolerate? Doesn't do us a bit of

good to make suggestions if you can't eat what we suggest!

(BTW, I'd be very happy to give you about 45 pounds if you can figure out

how to take it.... I, too, exercise regularly. I'm quite a bit stronger

Can tolerate anything (sorry if that makes anyone jealous) so any

suggestions are helpful. Thanks again.

I just never have this problem about not being able to gain

weight.

What are you currently eating? I'm

asking because one person who had this

problem turned out to be way under eating

what he should have at his height and build.

Do you cook and bake for yourself much?

Some great advice. Thanks. When I can I will do some calculating to

figure what I should eat and what I am. Will try nut butter brownies.

Any suggestions on good source (that means inexpensive) for almond

flour? I currently make yogurt from whole milk. Eat lots of yogurt

w/ fruit and walnuts (and honey). Raw eggs just give me the willies.

Lately I am doing quite a bit of travel/field work. Since I can't

find much at fast food restaurants or airports, and at times the work

is physically demanding, I don't put weight on. Am not emaciated -

just can't make strength gains and get tired of people telling me I'm

skinny. Also ran out of holes on most of my belts. Went from around

175 pre-SCD to ~162#s and it shows in my face. Sometimes have to work

to stay north of 160. Hard to get sympathy.

While on the road I probably am undereating.

I do cook and now that we finally replaced the oven that had been down

for around a year, Baking is again an option.

There are 12 ounce cans of tomato juice which you can carry for a drink

with a few calories. Those can easily be found when you're traveling.

I makes a butter pecan satin dessert which does have raw eggs in

it... but you can use pasturized eggs if you want, or, make the satin and

then bake it as soft, chewy cookies.

Carry butter with you and you can get steamed veggies and put lots of

butter on them. Carry a bottle of homemade salad dressing, and order a

salad, and put your own safe dressing on it.

Larabars, although not something I would recommend generally, have some

legal flavors and are convenient to carry and high calorie.

Make yogurt from half and half -- it's delicious! Make smoothies from

that yogurt and add avocado and coconut oil to the smoothies.

I've done smoothies with cooked vegetables and tomato juice, and leftover

roasted meat -- carry it hot in a thermos with you.

And yes, pop out to some place like Fitday.Com and calculate how much

exertion you're putting out a day and how many calories you're taking in.

You're probably eating quite a bit less than you think you are.

Yipes! I need to do some numbers/keep a log. Been saying that since

starting SCD. Better start.

Guess this is individualized, and it has never been a problem, but am

afraid w/ lots of whole milk and butter, etc. I will see an increase

in cholesterol. Any comments? Am due for annual physical so I won't

have to blindly wonder a lot longer. I do east quite a few eggs, but

usually only 1 yolk. Have not tried 1/2 & 1/2 yogurt. Sounds good.

Whole milk rocks though. If I find cholesterol is higher this year

than last I will be pretty bummed.

I wish I could figure out how to send it! Just think

of the $$$ we could make for the plus sizes AND the ones who were

short-changed on the weight department! Both sides would pay

<g> I wasn't all that fond of tomato juice myself when I started

SCD. I got over it.

Don't push on the raw eggs -- btw, that vegetable smoothie I mentioned?

You can drop peeled hard boiled eggs into it to add extra protein.

Also, do a search for my pecan souffle bread. I'm using it for everything

from tortillas to hot dog buns to making chicken salad

sandwiches.

Tell us more about the type of travel you do... we can probably help you

figure out things you can take with you.

Bread sounds good (still need to do a search).

Guessing you use nut flour? What is a good source for nut flour? I

have ground my own but would rather buy some via a website.

Travel is for environmental field work. Lately long Island.

Sometimes S. Louisiana via Baton Rouge. Heard of the SCD for the

first time around 10 years ago while going to a IBD support group in

BR. Did not start the diet until 4/08, to try to get off meds. Have

not taken the leap of stopping the meds yet. Anyway, that's a tangent...

Usually I fly and obviously stay in hotels. Soemtimes have

refrigerator and microwave in the room. Usually take fruit and nuts

with me on travel days. Try to take a batch of yogurt with me. Can

make a batch last anywhere between a few days and a week or more.

Something which might work well for you -- but would require a bit of

work on weekends -- is making Krivel Krackers. Properly dried, these last

the long end of forever. Crackers and Cheese or Crackers and homemade

Remember that we aren't going to gain weight until our digestions improve and healing of our intestinal walls and our gut ecology has been restored. This takes time.

Our bodies just can't absorb nutrients appropriately until then.
