Pam,

Thanks for the info/warning on Vitamin C. Can you buy copper supplements in the

drugstore? Do you take any? If so, how much?

BTW, you could always call yourself " AlmostSane " *wink* LOL

Vitamin C does the same to me. I was reading somewhere that vitamin C

that you buy in a tablet form (Asorbic Acid) is not the same as

vitamin C found in foods. It does not contain a complete C complex

and depletes your body of other vitamins. In particular they were

talking about Vitamin P (I think) which is part of the C complex. If

you are missing Vitamin P then the corners of your mouth tend to

crack. So I've been trying to get my C from natural sources and it

doesn't seem to cause the hyper reaction. And the cracks in corners

of my mouth are gone.

Hi Pam

I too am interested in the actual name and brand of your copper products.

I tried to find some yesterday and they are only found in vitamins here and

they seem to all have iodine.

Almostsane, I like that. <grin> Trouble is, it is most of us.

Thank you Pam for the completeness of your post on Copper. Seems that I

remember reading somewhere, some time ago about either hyper's or hypo's

having trouble processing beta carotene...and that the skin would have an

orange tint if you were having that problem? Don't know why that popped in

my head when I read your post...maybe the carrots?

I LOVE sunflower seeds and always put them in my salads, as a matter of fact

looking at the foods you listed, I'm probably getting plenty just by my

eating habits.

Again, thanks for the info!

Pam B,

I am so glad to hear of someone else that has noticed this vit. C, zoom, zoom

thing. Just

as glad as when I found that info on 's site. You know, we get so accustomed

to

thinking we are crazy, finally get diagnosed, find lists and BB , decide we are

not

crazy......but then no one here had a vit. C problem. Yikes. = :-o

Doris,

Thinking 'Almost Sane' , best be saved for the future. Tee hee..... Doctor still

refuses

to say I am not crazy. <grin> I keep asking. Happy to have an endo with a sense

of humor

though.( I think??? )

For the new people on the block,

You will find me on other BBs using the name Almostcrazy , which was REALLY

appropriate

back when I first got this computer, with the only reason being to figure out

all this

Graves stuff. Picture me, knowing nothing about computers, found my first BB and

had to

think of a screen name real fast. I am still surprised no one had used the name

yet.

About Copper,

The best thing to do would be to look at s site. http://ithyroid.com/

I debated on the use of copper for a very long time, as it can be very toxic.

And I am

pretty sure there is a lot of bad advise on the internet.

That said, after being on ATDs for so long, and still not feeling right, I spent

a lot of

time at s site, and studying the references. Plus some books from the

library, and

other sites. I can up with a game plan for me. That did include copper.

Copper is in most multi vitamins, at 2 mg. It is also in many foods. Sunflower

seeds and

dark green leaves come to mind.Oh, carrots are loaded with copper. You would

need to look

this up to be sure.

Then many people have copper plumbing in their homes. ( a salt water aquarium

store would

be able to test your water for copper ) You would also want to check with your

city water

source, and see what you are getting that way.

There is debate about hair analasis...if it does work, this would tell you more.

And I

just found out there is a blood test that can show how much copper you have. But

that was

only yesterday, and I do not remember the name of it.

My copper pills are made by Twin Labs, and are not in most stores. Asking the

clerks is a

waste of time, as they will try to send you to a gem and rock shop. I just kept

looking

and ended up finding them at Safeway. Go figure...

I started out at 2 mg and worked up to 8mg. This was 3 or 4 days a week.

And unbelievably, after some time, I finally started getting better. This was

exactly

when my stubborn TSH finally moved ! It had been stuck at .002 or .02 depending

on the

lab, for 3 years. Was it the copper ? Or was it a coincidence? I will never

know for

sure, but my gut tells me it was the copper.

Now the bad news. I just found out a friend of mine has Leio myo Sarcoma, a very

rare

cancer. It is a tumor of the smooth muscle. It starts out in spots in the body,

which need

to be removed. It will finally end up spreading through the whole body. It is

interesting

that her husband feels it was her huge intake of carrot juice, full of copper

that set off

this final stage. ( which is why I am including this here )

He said copper in the body allows new blood vessels to form. And this is how a

cancer

grows. If it did not grow new blood vessels it would die.

The other odd thing is that since he is involved on the internet, with other

patients and

spouses, he has met MANY Hashimotos patients that also have Leio Myo Sarcoma.

How the two fit together I have not figured out yet. If anyone has any ideas

please let me

know.

I am glad I took the copper, and it did work for me, but I am sure this is not

the answer

for everyone. I also had already figured that since I am now in remission, I do

not think

the extra copper is needed. But if my Graves comes back, I will cross that

bridge when I

come to it.

-Pam- who is so sad. These people have been my friends for over 20 years. She

is an

emergency room physician, and did all the right things.

Hi Sue,

I just grabbed my vitamin bottle...multi, yes copper, no iodine...They have a

web site.

Just looked, here it is:

http://www.wildoats.com/wild_life/wild_products/wild_supplements.html

I bought mine at Natures, out local natural type food store. But then I live in

a land of

health nuts. :-) So I have several such stores within walking distance.

Doris,

No orange skin here. Gray for a long time, shades of green, there was the time

right

before diagnosis when I was just plain red all the time, and the time in the

hospital some

time back when I turned yellow......shesh ! But not orange. :-)

Jody, Thank you so much. I am off to work right now , but will write later.

Thanks again.

-Pam- at least you can all see I did not just buy some copper foolishly.

Yes, it did work, but please be careful.

Morning everyone, this is my first message, although I have been reading for a

bit....so I hope it works....<smile>

It took me awhile to located just " Copper " , recommended dose of 2mg. I actually

found in more of a health store rather than a vitamin store, when I was in the

City last Fall (live in Northern Manitoba) I have ran out and feel a great

difference without having the additional copper, however I have found it on the

net at GNC, just type in copper. Haven't gotten this brand yet, oh ya the other

brand was under " Swiss "

I hope this helps and that you all see it....
