Hi all,

I have an SCD question. A little bit about my condition before the

question: I have only recently been diagnosed with Crohn's, although

looking back I had many of the symptoms in varying capacities for

around three years. I had a very bad flare up while on holiday in

India about four weeks ago which resulted in my spending ten days in

an Indian hospital, most of it nil by mouth. I was treated with anti-

botics, Mesalazine and Prednisolone. I'm pleased to say I responded

well to this treatment and since returning to the UK, I have reduced

the dosage of Presnisolone from 40mg to 20mg on the advice of my

Consultant and have been instructed to reduce by 10mg each week

thereafter. I have to say that I not felt this healthy in many years

and have now turned my attention to my lifestyle and diet in

particular in a bid to improve further.

I have read BTVC with great interest and have been following the diet;

on the whole. I have however during this time eaten the occasional

illegal foods, maybe four or five times, without any seeming

consequence. This led me to think that it may be possible for me to

follow the SCD diet 80% or 90% of the time and the remainder treat

myself to the occasional illegal food/drink - a pint of Guinness

perhaps or even some fries. Reading BTVC, it is very clear that this

isn't permitted and the diet requires the strictest adherence. But in

my case, I didn't experience any problems when I did stray. I am

curious to get members thoughts on this bearing my context. Does

anyone else follow the SCD 80:20? Can it work or is it wishful

thinking?

I'd be most interested to hear your thoughts.

Kind regards,

Oliver Lucas
