Question: would you have gone how would you have eaten Last night, I was invited to a sit-down dinner at the St. 's Lutheran Church here in New Orleans. I have an insulated carry case with a hot pack in it. I prepared some celeriac mashed potatoes, some baked butternut, and heated them on the plate in the oven. Just before we left, I grilled a bison burger to medium rare and slid it on the plate with the cheese on top. I put the whole plate in the carrier and covered it, then took my usual eating out bag with salad dressing and souffle bread. It was almost an hour before we actually ate, and my food was, if not HOT, at least, still warm. I did have a salad, and used my own dressing. I also brought butter pecan satin for my dessert. They had a good white wine that I drank WAY too much of. <g> And the auction, which was for the benefit of the church sachool (scholarships for kids who can't afford tuition) got me an electric beverage warmer, and a 2 quart Farberware double boiler (like the ones I have had for about ten years, and have been hunting for another!) The beverage warmer may work to keep food warm in the carrier if we have a longer drive somewhere. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund

If we were gone for days I would freeze the food and then it would keep for several days, thawing slowly. Anyway, we would make a fire, put the food in the pot and voila, warm food! :-) Cecilia
Guest guest
I take my own food with me wherever I go. Most of the time people don't notice or else decide not to say anything to me. If they ask, I just explain that I am on a restricted diet because of medical reasons. Only a few people have asked me for more details; most everyone just says OK and drops the subject. If I'm invited to someone's house, I do discuss my dietary needs with the host/hostess, and explain why I'm bringing my own food. If I have to attend a meeting at a restaurant, then I usually eat my own food before going inside. Of course standing around in the cold is not my idea of fun, so I don't think I would have attended that event anyway! Kim M. SCD 5 years > > So you are saying just go and eat take your own food. I used several heavy plates and heated them in the oven when I heated the food, then placed them in the insulated carry pack. My food wasn't HOT, but it was warm. It sounds to me like you want an excuse not to go, or you would be working on finding solutions, not more obstacles. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
