If this is a Disney facility, like the one whose restaurant I checked, talk to them about your daughter's limitations. They may be able to accommodate. Otherwise, I saw precious little that I'd be willing to trust. We were discussing my cherry-pecan cake which I make in a Bundt pan, and which would look much like a volcano, over on the SCD Cooks list. I would suggest, instead of everyone else having a dessert for " her birthday " that she is not allowed to have, you should contact the restaurant and arrange to bring the dessert -- and everyone else can eat HER delicious dessert instead of leaving her out of her own celebration. This cake, btw, was served to around 40 people at my mother's 80th birthday party, and a number of people, including the restaurant owner, asked for copies of the recipe. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Sorry, my original post may have been confusing. The birthday we are celebrating is not for my daughter that has Crohn's but for her older sister. The dessert sounds yummy, Marilyn. Thanks, > >First, I'm wondering if there is ANYTHING she > >could order off the menu for her dinner or do I need to pack her food? > > If this is a Disney facility, like the one whose > restaurant I checked, talk to them about your > daughter's limitations. I thought it was the daughter who has Chrohn's whose birthday was being celebrated, and it seemed like a cruel thing to do to have a dessert for her birthday that she could not even touch! The cherry pecan cakes is delicious! I remember people eyeing a " special diet " cake with caution at my mom's party... until they bit in! — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Have you looked on-line to see if a menu is available? Maybe you could call ahead after picking out legal foods (vegetables, meat) for her to see if they can leave spices or illegals on the side. And check out their dessert menu. www.scdrecipe.com has a lot of recipes on it, maybe you could find something there. I have crohn's disease and have taken Pentasa for years. Just wanted to mention to take a folic acid supplement (as per ccfa.org). I was never told that by a doctor though--something to do with production of red blood cells. They tell you that with sulfazine but it's the same for any of those types of drugs. Also, on the raw nuts and other foods--just as a thought, maybe toast them first for her. Same with fruits and vegetables--they should be be peeled, deseeded if needed and cooked. Except bananas and avocados. They may not bother her but as I tapered Pentasa, winter squashes and certain other foods nearly killed me. I could at least eat acorn squash with the Pentasa so I'd end up right back on it after eating certain legal foods I had no idea bothered me. It's just easier to avoid potential problems and that's just my experience fwiw. Hope you find a nice alternative for the birthday party :-). Guest guest
I've been wondering if the Pentasa wasn't possibly just masking things. Like, if I took her off the Pentasa, how would her body react to the " Legals " she's eating now? I suspect if I took her off it would be a different story.
