Note, as I've said, I've used grated pears, grated apples, homemade apple

sauce and so forth to make this cake.

The best way I've made it (since this recipe was posted), was to take a

cup of dried Bing Cherries, and soak them in the two cups of pureed

cherries, then run the whole mess through a coarse grinder.

Serious CHERRY flavor! The first time I made it, the cherries were

juicier than I anticipated, and the only thing I had handy was some dried

Granny apple slices, so I used those, and they worked well, and

were less expensive than the all cherries.
