Guest guest
Hi all - was curious if anyone has ever had a metallic taste in their mouth and what that means? I have found a syndrome called " burning tongue " - when not eating it feels like the tongue is burnt. I have been to naturopaths. doctors acupuncture, you name it and nothing seems to pinpoint this problem. Any ideas?

Guest guest
I had both of these problems when I had a systemic candida overgrowth - - and also had thrush and mouth sores. This was back when I first started SCD. The metallic taste was bad enough, but that burning tongue thing drove me crazy at times. It disappeared as soon as my thrush and mouth sores started improving. I occasionally get a burning tongue when I've overdone the fruits and start getting other signals my candida levels are increasing. I take steps immediately [grin]. The metallic taste took longer to disappear, about a year. I also get the occasional metallic taste when I'm having upper GI symptoms, which means for me my stomach and bile ducts are slow to empty, so things back up so-to-speak. Not sure this reasons are your reasons, but wanted to suggest some possibilities. Kim M. Guest guest
I too suffered from burning tongue. While many things can cause it, such as thyroid problems and reaction to toothpaste or mouthwash, for me it was too much B vitamins. My doctor suggested that getting B-12 shots and also taking super B supplements was too much and that can contribute to nerve problems in the mouth. I stopped the supplements and sure enough, the burning went away. I also suffered from a salty mouth. That turned out to be too much iodine. I was taking Iodoral as suggested by my doctor. I cut way back on that and eventually the salty mouth went away. For a while it was torture with the burning and salty (which makes everything taste terrible), so I know how difficult it is. Try these things and see what happens. Good luck! Guest guest
Burning tongue can also occur due to tartar control toothpastes. When you discontinue use, it resolves. Guest guest
I developed " burning mouth syndrome " during a period when I was also suffering from severe burning pain in my gut after eating. (The gastro later told me that many people experience the intense burning from very rapid intestinal cramping.) My mouth (starting first around the teeth & gums and tongue) would start tingling on my way to work and would increase throughout the day until, in the evening, I could feel the burning even around the outside of my mouth and up towards my nose. My internist sent me to the dentist who identified the syndrome and said that sometimes it resolves itself -- but he didn't sound very hopeful. I've found that as my intestinal health has improved on the diet, so has my burning mouth. In fact, I really only notice it at all when I am having some " troubles " with my gut. I don't know why this would be true but I can't help but wonder if the impulses that cause cramping don't somehow have the ability to " travel " through the body's tissues. I consider this another positive outcome of the diet.
