Guest guest
Strep infection is very hard to cure - and even " cure " is sometimes defined as ASO < 120, others ASO = 0. I have been on Erythromycin (Erybid) for 5+ months and my ASO has only dropped from 210 (approx) to 123. This is a SLOW process. Some literature states that amox should only be prescribed for acute infection (eg: strep throat) and not just for high ASO. Others say that Strep is no longer affected by Amox (that's why I'm on Erybid). The road back foundation suggests that there may even be a synergistic relationship between Strep and Mycoplamsa...and that Strep should be reduced to 0 (zero) before AP can be effective. I think taking antibiotics for Strep makes a lot of sense (I'm doing it) - just be prepared for the long haul (up to a year to get ASO to 0). -Mike- rheumatic Hp-PAC for ASO From: " Pierre Fontaine " <pierre14@...> Hello everyone, As you may know, the standard treatment for ulcers (and a must for anyone who has used NSAIDs in the past) is the Hp-PAC for 1-4 weeks, followed by a minimum of 3 months of Losec (Omeprazole), 20 mg per day, a slow release antiacid medication. The Hp-PAC contains the following medication: - Prevacid (Lansoprazole), 30 mg, every 12 hours, a delayed-release antiacid medication; - Amoxicillin, 1,000 mg, every 12 hours, an antibiotic; - Biaxin (Clarithromycin), 500 mg, every 12 hours, an antibiotic. In the United States, the Hp-PAC is possibly known as the PrevPAC. A positive ASO titer is indicative of a Streptococcus bacteria infection and possibly the consequence of ulcers. Interestingly enough, the Hp-PAC can be used to cure both the ulcers and the ASO infection. As I was reading my copy of Dr. Mercola's protocol, displayed on the Web site, I came across the following passages: __________________ Amoxicillin If the patient had a positive ASO titer one can initiate amoxicillin 250 mg tid. Repeat the ASO titer at the next visit. If it is still positive several options are available. One could increase the dose to 500 mg tid for another four weeks or use Augmentin 250 mg tid. However, one needs to warn the patients about diarrhea developing with this drug. Other antibiotics Some of the newer macrolide antibiotics like Biaxin or Zithromax may be helpful, especially for patients with positive ASO titers. __________________ The antibiotics contained in the Hp-PAC are none other than Amoxicillin and Biaxin, two of the antibiotics recommended by Dr. Mercola for patients who have a positive ASO titer. I have used the Hp-PAC for 2 weeks in January 1999 in order to treat the ulcers that lead to my Ankylosing Spondylitis. As I still have a positive ASO titer, I requested from my Orthopedic Surgeon a prescription for 4 weeks of the Hp-PAC which I have been taking in September, 1999. Hopefully, this has cured any lingering infection. I should repeat the ASO test. If positive, I will request another prescription for 4 weeks of the Hp-PAC, to be followed by a new ASO test. Speaking of Rheumatoid Arthritis, Dr. Mercola has this to say about the ASO titer: __________________ The following criteria can help establish remission: [...] * ANA, RF, & ASO titers returning to normal If patients discontinue their medications before all of the above criteria are met, there is a greater risk that the disease will recur. __________________ Best of health.
