Guest guest
I am new to the group and below are my lab results. I have major hypo symptoms and have been to an Endo. She prescribed me NDT which I had to have filled by a compounding pharmacist. However, I haven't taken any because I think I've got adrenal issues as well as RT3 issues. Any advice you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Guest guest
>Sorry for all the data but hopefully you'll be able to shed some light as to what is going on. Interesting. Hopefully Val can come in here as well. I presume you are not on any thyroid or adrenal meds when those labs were taken? The Cortisol labs look good, you shouldn't get any problems there >TSH 1.64 (0.450-4.500) uIU/mL >T3U 30.5 (24.0-38.0) >FT4 1.14 (0.82-1.77) ng/dL >FT3 2.7 (2.0-4.4) pg/mL >rT3 197 (90-350) The thyroid labs show you as horribly hypo with the raised TSH and the low FT3. Your FT3/RT3 ratio is 13.7 and we normally look for that to be over 20 but in your case that's mainly caused by a very low FT3 rather than a high RT3. If you were able to get the FT3 to the top of the range without the RT3 coming up further then that ratio will come up to 22 and be fine. This indicates that it all depends which way things go when you start supplementing. A T4 med would cause trouble, Natural might be OK, T3 only would definately bring it up. If your Dr is most happy with Natural then that's a good way to start, just get new FT3 and RT3 labs a couple of months in and make sure that RT3 is not going up >Vit D, 25-Hydroxy 20.3 (32.0-100.0) ng/mL This is horribly low. I would go onto 10,000IU a day. http://www.puritan.com/ Do some reasonably priced 5000iu soft gells. The ranges are pretty low on Vitamin D anyway and you could do with being at least 50 in that range http://www.vitamindcouncil.org/ >Ferritin (taken 12/2/09) 5 (10-291) ng/mL >Ferritin (taken 1/8/10, different lab) 28 (0-73) ng/mL Coming up but still horribly low. You need to supplement iron heavily, 150 of elemental iron a day is the suggested level. That ferritin needs to be 70-90 to be able to tolerate and utilise thyroid meds successfully. >DHEA: >8AM 2.4 (2.8-12.7) ng/ml >8PM 2.3 (2.7-9.0) >12AM 2.2 (1.8-8.1) Sorry, I don't know enough about DHEA to comment. Your temperatures are interesting, they seem too high for the state of your thyroid labs. Silly question, is your thermometer accurate???? How do you feel? do you have shed loads of hypo symptoms?? I hope this helps Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
Guest guest
Along wiht what Nick has said, I htink you really need ot work on iron before raising thyroid at all. The low ferritin is PROBABLY the cause of your RT3 goig high with stil low thyroid levels. I also think you shoudl have a saliva cortilsl lab done, as low DHEA usually means stressed adrenals. Guest guest
Hey , Thanks for your input. Below is my original post with my Cortisol test results. Please let me know what you think. Guest guest
Your cortiosl levels so far look good, so you are in early stages of adrenal fatigue where gettign Ferrtiin up and possibly 5mg of DHEA would be helpful. You alos need Vitamin D very badly I would take 10,000IU daily for at leats 6 months and retest to see where it is then. -- Artistic Grooming- Hurricane WV http://www.stopthethyroidmadness.com/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/NaturalThyroidHormonesADRENALS/ http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/RT3_T3/ http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HypoPets/
