So, Yesterday I cried! Tears of joy.

Yes, this whole botched B12 totally derailed me.. had me questioning

many philosophical notions about why is this happening to me..

After a full outer buttock exam to learn about what the B12 did to me-

and no, not an internal as many of us IBD'ers are familiar with LOL!

The nurse practitioner emerged from her office to hand me my latest

blood results. She said " Jodi, your blood count is down " and my

Husband bolted a look in my direction and my heart sank and the inner

echo in my head was like " Ohh my god, how is this possible all of this

hard work " Both of us, wearing the devastated look. I spoke up and

said " I have to see the results myself, I cannot believe it " and she

said " No Jodi you have Anemia " at this point my heart was pounding as

we are used to when docs say blood is low.. It means it's really low.

Time to go to the hospital and get a unit of blood. I am so trained

and this is so imprinted on me.

Finally the paper is in my hand..

reading- " Heee-ma-glooooo-bin 12.9 "

Uhh, hubby and I look at one another " 12.9?? " we both look back at the

paper in utter disbelief after hearing the Nurses words and then look

back at each other and both of us start laughing so hard. He looks at

the Nurse Prac and says " this is not low for her!! Are you kidding me!! "

I have never in my life had such a high hemoglobin 12.9!!

My crit is 38.8!!!!! 38.8!!!!

This is coming from a hemoglobin that always hovering between 8 & 9

and crit in teens or low 20's. Just lingering there. Those weren't

the worst numbers.. Just the chronic numbers- as I have been

transfused when it was a lot worse. My mother told me my hemoglobin

was never this high NEVER!!!

My birthday is coming up.

My previous GI told me I would never be healthy and would have to be

responsible and live on medicine the rest of my life. He told me some

people just live with bad anemia. He brainwashed me too..

This is the best birthday gift to myself I have ever had. These

results are going to be framed.

All of this work is paying off and in the midst of an existential

crisis I was handed this incredible piece of paper that is beyond

words to express how proud I am of myself that I am fully devoted to

the SCD teetering on insane fanaticism at times.. IT IS SO WORTH IT!

Thank you all for your guidance, help and emotional support.

I do not think I could do any of this without you.

Thank you Elaine!!!

Hey Sally!

Yep I am still using the cream.

These blood tests were done before I started treatment!

The results aren't perfect by any means but many things have improved

and the best thing was the Anemia getting so much better!!
