Is, Welch's still " legal " ? I stopped drinking it after reading this post and miss it. Thanks for your help, Misty Kimble CD - no meds SCD - 10 months Misty, If you look at other topics around the same time, you'll find that Caroline contacted Welch's, and what she learned. At 12:33 PM 10/29/2008, Caroline wrote: Not good news from them. According to a spokesperson from Welch's, their 100% Welch's Grape Juice, which lists as ingredients: Grape Juice from concentrate (Filtered Water, grape Juice concentrate), Grape Juice, Ascorbic Acid, (Vitamin c): " Ascorbic acid (Vit c) is added in the form of dry crystals manufactured by a biological fermentation process using corn sugars as raw materials. " The rep to whom I spoke said they no longer made a product that doesn't have anything added. Does this mean Welch's Grape Juice is out also? Not necessarily. Keep in mind that Vitamin C, aka ascorbic acid, is legal. So is citric acid. Remember that milk is just as much of an illegal as corn is -- but the biological fermentation we use when making our SCD yogurt turns the illegal milk into legal yogurt. As a consequence, the biological fermentation used to make the ascorbic acid should break down all products which might be an issue. I grant you that there may be some hyper-sensitive individuals who cannot tolerate this, just as there are some individuals who cannot tolerate SCD dairy products. (I know one person who could never take a Vitamin C supplement until she hunted up some which was not made from corn, so it can happen.) So Welch's is not something I can declare legal or not-legal. It is something to be taken note of, and if someone has difficulty with it, they may want to make their own juice so they can be certain nothing has been added to it. Please recall that the Knudsen Just Juice line, although from concentrate, was approved by Elaine, and does offer some alternatives. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
