So, with that in mind, as long as an awareness is present not to overuse it, I think it is okay, unless someone knows another reason not to use it. Marilyn?? Anyone?? That's correct. People who come to SCD who have been drinking 3-4 big glasses of milk a day may try to substitute an equal amount of coconut or other nut milk. Because the nutrition values are different, they fill up on the nut milks and don't want to eat anything else, so they end up with a very unbalanced diet. By eliminating the nut milk for a period of time, it's possible to break the habit of drinking milk as a beverage. It's similar to the limitation of the nut breads and muffins -- people who have been starch addicts try to replace their wheat and other grain breads with nut breads and fill up on those, without eating meats, vegetables, fruits, and yogurt. While we don't worry about temporary imbalances (see also " Balance Over Time " ) while establishing a balanced repertoire of foods, mono-focusing on one food is a Bad Thing. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
Guest guest
Hi Holly and Marilyn, I am equally confused at some of the posts that Mara and Marilyn wrote (but they usually know what they are talking about LOL) because I understood home-made SCD coconut milk is advanced too. So, I don't know who to go by? I have a problem suggesting this to newbies. I know my own gut didn't tolerate it but I am on the sensitive side. My mom who isn't sensitive and is on the diet due to IBS-constipation couldn't do coconut milk either in her coffee in her early days on the diet. So I am very confused. I understand Marilyn's point of people needing replacement foods etc.. But I doesn't this interfere with healing? Sorry Marilyn, I should direct this to you in a different thread... I'm a bit tired. Thanks, Jodi SCD 14 months Crohn's/Colitis

Is that accurate? That is in accordance with Elaine's recommendations, yes. Also, the coconut milk must be homemade because the commercial brands often have guar gum or other illegal thickeners. — Marilyn New Orleans, Louisiana, USA Undiagnosed IBS since 1976, SCD since 2001 Darn Good SCD Cook No Human Children Shadow & Sunny Longhair Dachshund
