Guest guest
Count me in for spa week ! I recently went through something similar...got a positive ANA. Mine was 1:180. Doc did follow up tests for lupus (anti ds DNA antibodies and some others) all came back negative...but they did find my insulin resistance in that additional testing. I of course did some digging when my positive ANA came back and learned that there are often false positives. I don't know what your titer was...but it's not uncommon to see 1:3,000 from what I read. Try not to stress yourself out like I did. I hope it's a false positive! Doris
Guest guest
I'm all over the spa idea ! Just tell me where and when! I'm betting your ANA (I don't even know what that is!) is because of your Reynauds... keep insisting on the T3 test, and don't forget that there are doctors out there that will treat your thyroid based on symptoms, not tests. At least, I keep hearing of these doctors I obviously haven't investigated hypo treatments... but are there any nutritional or herbal remedies that might help with all or some of your hypo symptoms? I think I remember some stuff on ithyroid.com.... Pam B.
Guest guest
Can someone tell me where I can find one of those doctors who treat based on symptoms? My doc today just told me all my tests came back negative (thank God! I have no pheochromocytoma, no carcinoid syndrome and no menopausal problems). My TSH is at 3.10, I have a F4 of 9.18 and a FT3 123. I was rushed to the hospital two nights ago for what turned out to be panic and anxiety attacks. I spoke to my doc today and she insists that my thyroid is functioning normally. My levels as she put it are " beautifully in the normal range. " When I asked her about hashitoxicosis, she responded with, it would be reflected in an up and down movement of the TSH levels. When I told her that is only the case when the symptoms last for a week or so, she debunked what I had learned from Elaine. She more/less wrote me off and told me I need to abandon the idea of it being my thyroid and to seek a remedy of a medical professional who can deal with the panic attacks. I am so upset, I cried all day at work. My husband is furious and told me I should get mad. I need a doctor who will listen and treat my symptoms. All these symptoms started when I was diagnosed with thyroid. My levels reflected it then and they don't now. So what makes the symptoms any less credible now? By the way, the doc is still keeping me on PTU because it's keeping my thyroid normal. She also told me that being on PTU prevents one from getting hashitoxicosis. I'm just so depressed! Guest guest
Hi Ann, is that a typo or is your FT3 really 123? If so, what is the range for that? Plus a TSH of 3.10 would be hypo for many of us. I know when mine was 2.3 I was complaining of hypo symptoms. Is this your endo or GP telling you it's not your thyroid? Maybe you need a second opinion? I agree you probably need a new doctor. Where do you live? Maybe someone near you knows of someone good... or, have you checked with the Thyroid Top Docs directory? http://www.thyroid-info.com/topdocs.htm Or what about trying a naturopath? Re: Oh no! Guest guest
Pam - I think Ann's measurement is in different units. I had 2 different labs do FT3's and one was 7.47 and the other was 197. I can't remember the units, but it's just a decimal point conversion like from cm to m. So if that's it, Ann's result would be 1.23 on the scale you're used to. Re: Oh no! Guest guest
Hey Ann - I just read in The Thyroid Solution book that panic attacks can be a symptom of a mildly underactive thyroid. I think your TSH of 3.10 is likely the culprit. I understand your frustration of doctors looking off in odd directions instead of the more obvious! I'd definitely shop around for another doctor and ask specifically what TSH range the doc considers to be subclinically hypo when you call them. That will hopefully at least give you some idea whether you should waste your time going to that one. From what I've seen, a TSH over 3 is considered clinical hypo. Good luck - hope it's better than mine lately! Re: Oh no! Positive ANA test > > > I'm all over the spa idea ! Guest guest
Pam - Got to check for hypo things on ithyroid, but I'd still like to find out if it's a T3 problem. I don't think that can be corrected with supps, but I could be wrong! Spa sounds so wonderful - don't I wish! Re: Oh no! Positive ANA test > I'm all over the spa idea ! Guest guest
Thanks Doris! I won't get the titer back until next week sometime. I checked out your post from when it happened to you and Elaine said that ANA can be positive from Raynaud's, so I hope it's just that! But in the meantime, all this still isn't getting me anywhere to feeling better I might have to ask you about some of the sites you found when you were researching it later. Re: Oh no! Guest guest
Ann: You can feel HORRIBLE with a TSH of 3.10. n I did. My endo put me on synthroid with that level. Your doctor is living in the dark ages. Forget her and move on. Check the top docs list. Call endos that your insurance company covers and ask to talk to the nurse/doctor to see if they will treat people based on symptoms rather than numbers: that's what I did, in part. Get rid of this doctor. B Re: Oh no! Positive ANA test > > > I'm all over the spa idea ! Guest guest
Believe it or not. The last doc was from that list. She wasn't a top doc as far as I was concerned. Re: Oh no!
