Guest guest
Not sure about other countries, but sounds like one of those 'only in America' things, where we invite people over to tell us how worthless our stuff is. ;-) HJ ----- Original Message ----- > What I am wondering is, is this exclusively an American thing, or is it done > elsewhere too? I'm not even sure if they do it in Canada. But I know here > they are as common as dandelions.
Guest guest
I live in England Unfortunately it doesn't happen here as much as i would like. It might occur more often in rural areas but here in the city, no. For a start, we don't have garages as all the streets around here are terraced. That is rows of houses all joined together that you walk right out onto the street. Today however, i have been at a table top sale. Our school is trying to raise money to re-lay the playground. We invited people to come along and hire a table then they can sell whatever they want and keep the proceeds. It has been quite a nice day. It rained a couple of times but not too much. We had 11 tables, that means that the school made a guaranteed profit of £55. We also had some people that didn't want a table but wanted to help so they just donated £5 to school. I hired a table for me and the kids. they had a bit at the end for their stuff and when anyone wanted to buy anything from the kids stuff, they just gave the money to them. I made £15 myself and the children each made £5. I call that a good day. We sold the biggest items which means we didn't have to carry those home. I don't have a car which is the only draw-back.
