Guest guest
Gotta jump in here. I too had/have rapid heart beat with FORCEFUL beats. I've recently been diagnosed with Insulin Resistance. Since changing my diet and beginning to exercise for a few minutes each day I've noticed an improvement. Interesting to note also is that I have also noticed that the heart racing and forceful beats happens whenever I eat wrong foods, too much at one sitting and thus my blood sugar is too high. While tachycardia was a chief complaint of mine with my Graves, I do believe that these residual, annoying rapid, forceful beats are blood sugar related for ME. There is much info on the web about Graves causing some insulin resistance. I'm too lazy to pull the articles up right now, but I posted them on Mediboard and a I'm sure a google search will pull them up. Food for thought.... Guest guest
You sound just like me ....I have periods of racing and/or pounding heart every day...usually after eating anything with carbohydrates...cereal, cookie, bread...and when I check my BP at those times, it is elevated too. I sometimes think I will just have to live with it as well. Ruthie Help - bad heart palpitations Hi. I've recently had a really bad episode that started last Wed. I forgot my meds for 24 hours and it somehow kick started my GD. I was previously taking PTU at 50mg 2x a day and was feeling great. Then after last Wed I had very bad heart surges and very irregular heartbeat, like it would skip a beat and then " whoosh " really hard to make up for the lost beat. My doc put me on PTU 3x a day at 100 mg and a beta blocker (metoprolol) at 50mg once a day. After 2 days the beta blocker still wasn't fully controlling the heart palpitations so I'm on the met once every 12 hours. However today, its still seems to happen even though its only been 4 hours since my last dose. What in the world is going on? Has anyone experienced this before? Is this a thyroid storm? The palpitations don't last for hours they just sort of happen sporadically but when they happen they're usually preceded by " hot flashes " and stomach upset. I have no idea what is going on with my body and why it is not responding well to the meds. Has this ever happened to anyone else? I don't know if I have soemthing else wrong with me besides the GD. I'm starting to wonder. - Rosemarie
Guest guest
Ruthie, have you tried not eating wheat to see if you feel better? Gluten sensitivity is pretty common with Graves.... Pam B. http://www.webmosaics.com/thyroid/
Guest guest
Thanks Pam....yes, I've heard about the gluten sensitivity and would like to give it a try...eliminating wheat that is. I just haven't made a point of doing it yet. Do you have a sample day's menu you could share just to get some ideas?? Thanks, Ruthie Re: bad heart palpitations- Ruthie, have you tried not eating wheat to see if you feel better? Gluten sensitivity is pretty common with Graves.... Guest guest
Hi Ruthie, lets see.. here are some ideas, we are probably all a little different in what we can eat, like I can't do corn or tomatoes or citrus, and if I could, I would have more ideas, like maybe a taco salad, or corn and bean tacos, stuff like that: Breakfast: fruit and yogurt smoothie or, fruit and yogurt on wheat free cereal, or veggie omelet, maybe some wheat free toast Snack: nuts or hardboiled egg Lunch: salad with meat or egg on it for protein or some sort of sandwich on wheat free bread or leftovers from last nights dinner or soup (have to watch out for gluten in soups thoug) and rice crackers Snack: fruit smoothie if I didn't have one for breakfast or veggies and hummus for dip or apple or pear with nut butter for dip Dinner: Meat/fish/poultry, rice/potatoes, veggies & salad wheat free pasta and salad stir-fry veggies and meat with rice Sometimes I make wheat free cookies or snack bars... I haven't gotten up the energy or bravery to make bread yet... There are some great cookbooks out - The Gluten Free Gourmet has a few and hers are the ones I like the best. Hope this helps, Pam B.
