Guest guest
Arava is similar to Methotrexate but a little easier on the lungs and stomach and harder on the liver for most people. However, they act in different ways so sometimes one works well and the other one does not, or both can work well or neither can work. Unfortunately finding the correct medications and doses for treating RA is a trial and error proposition and the medicines take quite a while to find out if they are working. God bless. ----- Original Message ----- From: Ray Lauffer Rheumatoid Arthritis Sent: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 10:17 AM Subject: Arava? Guest guest
Hi there, I have heard that Arava can have some positive benefits for people. The main issue with it for me (I was offered it and decided against it) was that it takes 2 years to get out of your body and it is unsafe to have children on. So, if you are planning a family (men and women) you shouldnt fall pregnant on Arava or within 2 years after the last dose. Guest guest
Hi Ray, I'm on Arava for the 2nd time. The first time I started with the loading dose - 3 days at 100 mg, then down to 20 mg. I had trouble with side effects and stopped taking the drug after 4 months. Last spring I tried it again - I was desparate for something to work because my combination of drugs wasn't. This time I started at 10 mg/day and after 2 months went up to 20 mg. I haven't had the trouble with side effects that I had the prior time. I'm also on Kineret, 20 mg of Bextra and 5 mg of prednisone. The combination seems to be doing as well as anything for me. I hope it works for you!
