Extra Tooth

Now she has discovered that her DS has grown an extra tooth. Apparently he

has a gap between his front top teeth and this extra peg like one is

emerging in-between them at the back so to speak.

Anyone heard of this before, should she do anything about it?

---------

Is this his first or second set of teeth, if it's his first they will probably

leave it alone but if it's his second his dentist will remove it.

Had this happen to me as a kid, BTDT.

Worked as a dental nurse for several years before arrival of dd1,

and saw a few cases - each one treated differently. He needs to visit

a dentist now to check it out. As long as it is an extra tooth, and

not a mixture of baby and adult teeth, then depending on the health

and position of the other teeth, the extra tooth could be taken out,

or another tooth could be taken out and the extra one allowed to take

its place, or the tooth could be left alone as there may be room for

it in the jaw as the child grows. Any thing that looks odd

cosmetically can be fixed by braces and/or crown work, but not

normally until the child is of senior school age and the jaw won't

grow much more. One of those questions that can't be answered

without looking, so he can't get out of a trip to the dentist I'm

afraid!

Sorry can't give a better answer, but whatever the case it can be

fixed,

:-)

Thanks for the reply - and HELLO

I have been away for the weekend

My friend should have seen the dentist last week, but I have not

heard from her since.

Hope you enjoy this list

What's wrong with that then? I still have 3 baby teeth because the adult

teeth never appeared. I had xrays and such, but the teeth just are not

there.

my dentist said they'll try to keep them as long as possible and they are

still fairly healthy.

Funnily enough, my aunt (by marriage) had the same problem, and was majorly

confused when she got her false teeth as they didn't fit because the dentist

had added in the missing teeth and she'd had her baby teeth removed a long

time before.

I have 2 adult teeth that never grew - the two second front teeth.

Unfortunately my baby teeth did fall out, leaving me with big gaps in my

mouth as the teeth spread out.

On the plus side, this means great dental hygiene - I never have to worry

about flossing etc as food doesn't get caught in my teeth. On the minus

side, it meant I grew up being called " claw hammer " and other pleasant

nicknames!!!

I spent much of my teenage years wearing a fixed train track brace - upper

and lower jaw - to try and close the gaps. This it did, but the teeth went

back to their natural position as soon as the brace came off. I have

investigated the option of having orthodontic work as an adult, and having

two false teeth put in, but the hassle and expense (not to mention the

discomfort) has made me disinclined to persue it.

That said, I am very conscious of my gappy teeth, and if there was an easy

cosmetic solution, I would definately go for it!

Nothing, a misunderstanding - i meant as long as he hasnt got baby &

adult teeth at same time - in which case baby ones will be pushed out

in time- u meant baby teeth instead of adult teeth, which as u say is

not a problem :-)

I've still got a baby tooth too, and have never met anyone else the same!

x-rays show no adult tooth underneath. So much for evolution of the

species?!
