Guest guest
Well, the shot was much easier than I thought. The dr used a really small needle because I whined. Unfortunately, they divided the dosage in half, so I had to have 2 shots! But it wasn't so bad... I also had to " fight off " several nurses, who tried to give me an IV!! When I registered, they said they'd get the blood work done, and they'd get me on IV before the dr came. I was surprised, as I was told I'd just get the shot and go home... Well, the nurse came in to take blood and give me the IV. I asked her why I was having the IV. She said they might have to give me an u/s. I said that I had had one 2 days before, and I didn't need another. She smiled and said " you're afraid of needles, aren't you? " I said yes, so she said she'd wait until my dr came. So, she tried to take the blood. I showed her exactly where to go in. I have VERY small veins, and they always have trouble finding them. However, because I get blood taken at the RE's at least once a week, I know exactly where they can find a good vein. But, she missed! She went about an inch under where I showed her. (There was even a little mark in the place I showed her, where they had taken blood two days before, but she still missed it!!!) So, she decided she had to use a butterfly needle, and go for a vein in my forearm, halfway between my wrist and elbow. OUCH!!! Then, she said to let people know in future that that one's a good vein, and they should always take blood there. I said " no, it hurts! " If she had gone in where I had shown her in the first place, she would have been fine! Well, the RE arrived, and told her I needed the IV. I asked him why. He said " oh, never mind. You don't need it. " So, the nurse didn't give me one. About 5 minutes later, another nurse came, and started looking at my wrists and arms, and I asked her what she was looking for. She said " where to put the IV " . I said I wasn't getting an IV. She said " are you sure? " I said yes, so she left. I tell you, you have to be VERY vigilant in the hospital to avoid all those unnecessary needle pricks!!! I am feeling ok today. I had some nausea earlier today, and tried to call the RE, but they were gone for the day. So, I called the pharmacy, and they said I could take Gravol. I'm feeling MUCH better now.... I go in for another beta next Friday to make sure the numbers are going down appropriately... is that a long time to wait? If they aren't going down, shouldn't I know before then???? Just curious how soon after the metho everyone else had another beta done. Thank you to everyone for all of the support and encouragement... I don't think I could have made it through the metho shot without you. I was so scared, but you were right... it wasn't that bad!!! Talk to you soon!
