Guest guest
Hi Jackie, I'm not surprised to hear that you're getting sick. The Slow FE iron is ferrous sulfate, which can be really hard on the stomach. I'm taking Blubbonnet chelated iron, and I also heard today about "Gentle Iron" from Solgar. Are you taking the iron tabs with food? That might help with the stomach issues. You can also spread the iron through the day rather than taking all at one time. You can also take Vitamin C with every meal to help improve your iron levels. I posted notes from a clinical study recently with that information. It's my understanding that taking your iron with Vitamin C, B12, folic acid can help with absorption. I'm not aware of iron supplements causing hypogycemic issues, though someone else here may be able to help. I've dealt with hypoglycemia for a long time. You have to make sure you eat throughout the day and make sure you get enough good fats and protein in your diet to satisfy your dietary needs. Eating too little food (i.e., dieting too much) can actually cause conversion problems and make your thyroid issues worse. Hope you're feeling better soon. My ferritin is 23 and I have tried Slow FE iron and I got terrible indigestion from that and now I have been taking Blue Bonnet Chelated Iron 27 mg. The first 2 days I tried 4 capsules and then I went back to 3 and then I tried 2. I get stomach discomfort and I get hypoglycemic periodically throughout the day. Thank you for any help Jackie
Guest guest
Thanks for replying, but I also get sick with the Blue Bonnet Chelated iron. I'm don't have the stomach pains today and I didn't take iron yesterday. I'm not sure the iron is causing the hypoglycemic issues, because I feel hypoglycemic right now. I might be having problems with HC doses. I do take iron with food, eat often, take vit C with iron and I spread it though the day. I'm really worried I can't take it, it seems everything I take I have some kind of bad reaction. It is imperitive I get my ferritin up so I can start T3 > > > > Subject: I get sick every time I try Iron > To: RT3_T3 > Date: Saturday, January 30, 2010, 11:46 AM > > > Â > > > > What am I going to do? Guest guest
I have low ferritin too and had been taking the Slow Fe... It took FOREVER to get from 15 to 25 in the ferritin range.. I now take the Blue Bonnet Chelated Iron... I have horrible hypoglycemia- can't even eat sugar right now- any sugar... A suggestion would be to try a digestive enzyme... I have been taking them for a while and until I changed to a different brand was I able to tolerate iron... I have read on these boards other people that have to take digestive enzymes, too. Just a suggestion. > > > > > > From: jackie <jag7@> > > Subject: I get sick every time I try Iron > > To: RT3_T3 > > Date: Saturday, January 30, 2010, 11:46 AM > > > > > > Â > > > > > > > > What am I going to do? Guest guest
The enzymes do make a difference. My doc "prescribed" those to take with my iron. They're also supposed to help with absorption. Guest guest
I'm taking Betaine Hydrochloride 1 with every large meal. Is this a digestive enzyme? If the hypoglycemia is from the iron would I have it today after not taking any iron since Thursday? I'm very confused. I'm wondering if it is my HC that is causing this? > > > > > > > > > From: jackie <jag7@> > > > Subject: I get sick every time I try Iron > > > To: RT3_T3yahoogroups (DOT) com > > > Date: Saturday, January 30, 2010, 11:46 AM > > > > > > > > >  > > > > > > > > > > > > What am I going to do? Guest guest
I'm not familiar with Betqaine Hydrochloride, but I found some info via a quick Google search - look at http://www.modernherbalist.com/betaine.html. It looks like this product supports the stomach's production of hydrochloric acid and helps when your stomach doesn't produce enough acid. The website description for Nature's Peak Betaine Hydrochloride says the product "promotes enzyme production which ultimately assists in overall food break down and absorption." Reading this, I don't think it's necessarily a digestive enzyme, but is supposed to help your body make enzymes. Is this supplement something your doctor told you to take, or is there a specific reason why you started taking it? I've never heard of iron supplements causing hypoglycemia. If you haven't taken any iron since Thursday and you're still having hypoglycemic symptoms, I think that rules out that particular cause/effect. Re the hypoglycemia, have you tried drinking some fruit juice to see if it makes it better? If it's true hypoglycemia, the sugar in the fruit juice should enter your bloodstream quickly and make the hypglycemic symptoms disappear. This would be a way to see if you really have hypoglycemia. Are you diabetic or are you on any diabetic or insulin-sensitizing medications? I have read on this forum that Bet Hydro helps with digestion. I think that maybe I'm not absorbing the iron in the foods I'm eating. I was shocked when I found out my Ferritin was low because I eat a lot of foods that have iron in them. I was tested for hypoglycemia and I don't have it or I'm not diabetic but I also read on the adrenal forum that adrenal issues can cause hypoglycemic symptoms. I do feel better if I drink a little juice, but said not to eat or drink any sugar. I don't take any meds except I use OTC HC Cream. I think that is the reason I'm feelig this way. I do think the stomach pains have to do with the iron. Like I said before how do I get my ferritin up if I can't take iron? Thanks for your reply, Jackie

Guest guest
Thank you Nick, but I assume you have to get Iron Iv through a doctor? If so my doctor won't give me anything. I have Adrenal Fatigue, High Rt3 ratio of 9.1 and of course the low ferritn and all he did was give me 70 mg of iron daily. He told me he won't treat my adrenals of RT3. Can you get an Iron IV on your own? > > > > >Like I said before how do I get my ferritin up if I can't take iron? > > Iron IV?? Guest guest
I'm on my fifth doctor and at least this one will order the right tests. I have come to the conclusion that I have to treat myself, but the Iron IV seems to be something I can't do on my own. That is why I'm so upset. > > > > > > > >Like I said before how do I get my ferritin up if I can't take iron? > > > > Iron IV?? Guest guest
> >Can you get an Iron IV on your own? Not that I know of. You might want to have a look through here for contact details http://venofer.com/ and see if they can recommend a Dr in your area. You could get your IV from someone else and stick with your Dr for tests. In terms of supplementing orally you may find that there are ways you can help absorbtion. There are people saying that adding magnedium and/or high does of vitamin C can help reduce adverse effects Nick -- for more information on RT3 and Thyroid Resistance go to www.thyroid-rt3.com
