How do I go about upgrading/updating our version of Word? At the moment we

operate on Word 2 which I know is very ancient and it is becoming harder and

harder to use as I can't read many files and attachments as they are written in

Word 6 or later.

What do I do? All advice gratefully received

Ermmm, its simple, just buy the new version and load it on. If you have all

your documents saved in My Documents, then it won't affect your documents other

than ask you if you want to save your amended docs in the new format.

But be warned if you are running an old system with not much RAM, these newer

bigger programmes just eat it up and can really slow everything down to the

point of 'hanging'. It may be easier to ask poeple to send you documents in RTF

or TXT format

which you should be able to read albeit without the fancy stuff. You can also

save it as the same when you return them, although newer programmes don't have

problems reading files in older formats as this is built in. The problem is an

older version

doesn't know a newer one exists which is why you can't open them.

Hope that helps.

ummm, buy a new version and install it.

thats it!

if you want Word its worth looking for one of the packages (I think ours was

called Microsoft Home essentials which for much cheaper than the combined

cost gave you MS Works, Word 97 (it was then...) MS Money, World Atlas, and

some other stuff as well.

Also if you have a school age child (or a are a student, you can get MS

software (Office or its components inc.. Word and Publisher for a

considerably cheaper student price. Ask at any good software retailer (you

buy an empty specially marked box, fill in the forms get them signed by

school/college & send off for the CD)
