Lord knows I have studied the DS for a long time but believe it or

not Maggie's question reminded me of yet another question I had

intended to ask too. Somehow I guess I just never got the answer to

this one question. My mother who is still not happy that I plan to

have surgery keeps asking me ...

" Every time you were on a diet it ended up slowing your metabolism

and defeating the weightloss eventually and many times you gained

back more then you lost. Since the surgery limits food and food

absorbtion won't it slow the metabolism the same way? " ...

I know that my family doctor has said that when I went on diets that

my metabolism went into a defensive mode and slowed down and that is

why he always pushed more exercise when I was dieting in an attempt

to keep the metabolism reved up. If any of you have asked this

question of your DS surgeon, then please let me know what they said

about the effect of the surgery on the metabolism in comparison to

the effect of diets on it.

Thanks,

Sheila
