Guest guest
Hi Maggie, How long have you been on Prednisone? I've been on it for 5 years. Under 10mg/day, I went down only 1 mg at a time (ie 7 one day and 6 the next day). My rheumy says then there is less of a risk of withdrawal. I've been on 4mg/day for 6 months. Next month I'm starting 3.5mg/day then 4 mg/day for a month. For under 5 my rheumy says .5mg increments is best. Take care,Steph in VA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ on the prednisone from 7.5 mgs a day to 7.5 mgs one day, 5 mgs the next and so on for the next month. The reason being is that my joints are puffy...the only pain I have is on the side of my right hand. *shrugs* ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Maggie
Guest guest
I can't remember how long I've been on it but it seems like forever lol. I think daily I've been on it for about 5 years...from anywhere between 5 - 20 mgs a day. Once I was down to 3 mgs, then started having carpal tunnel and arthritis in the right hand and upped it. February when I saw the RA doctor for the first check up, I was on 15mgs a day. Now I'm down to the 5 and 7.5 mgs rotating daily til the next appt. I just want to get off of it all together. Someone had posted last month that when you get to 5-7 mgs a day, the round face goes away....finally I'm noticing that. Now if the pounds would come off too! Good luck to you! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 -----Original Message-----From: DeNicola [mailto:sdenicola@...]Sent: Wednesday, April 06, 2005 2:13 PMRheumatoid Arthritis Subject: Maggie Hi Maggie, How long have you been on Prednisone? Guest guest
Hello again, I know what you mean about prednisone. My peak dosage was 80 mg/day when I was first diagnosed. I gained close to 70 pounds on predinsone (the doctor said it was an unusually high amount. My peak clothing size was a 20, and my current size is a 12. I was a size 4/6 before arthritis and prednisone (sigh). I'm happy the weight is coming off but I know I'll never be back to that size again.Take care,Steph ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I can't remember how long I've been on it but it seems like forever lol. Guest guest
Hello Before I was on the prednisone pills I was seeing what I thought was a bad RA doctor. Everytime I would go in for a monthly checkup, the doctor would give me an 80mg shot of prednisoline (sp) if I even had any soreness. Over the years with prednisone I went from 125 lbs to 180lbs size 8 to size 14/16. I'd be happy to lose 30 lbs and wear a size 12. I even go to the gym and walk 2 miles at least 3 times a week. Did you lose the weight from going down on your prednisone or diet, exercise? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Maggie http://www.4HockeyFans.com http://www.4FloridaHockey.com MSN: Maggies1429 AOL: Maggies85 -----Original Message-----From: DeNicola [mailto:sdenicola@...]Sent: Wednesday, April 06, 2005 2:42 PMRheumatoid Arthritis Subject: RE: Maggie Hello again, I know what you mean about prednisone. Guest guest
Hello again, All of my weight loss is from decreasing the prednisone. I even trained for 2 marathons with the arthritis foundation (2001 Honolulu and 2002 Bermuda)! I really exercised a lot during pre and post marathon training, watched my diet and I gained weight! I know that muscle weighs more than fat because I used to be a dancer but I actually increased a whole clothing size!
