Guest guest
Well, I guess I've got it easy, then. :-) To be honest, I had a whole suite of great bookmarks collected about LC... in my old browser... that I lost. Gone, kaputt, there's little hope for getting all those bookmarks back. (I was SO bummed.) But I'll see if I can scare up some of the stuff again. Basically, gluten free plus being REALLY careful about meds is all I do. Sounds like you're doing that already. I try to get enough fiber. But all my old " fiber boosting " standards are gone. I was a " whole wheat " maniac in the pre-GF days. I honestly don't know how much fiber I get these days. I've never tried to calculate it. I try to eat fruit and veggies several times/day. Add flax seed for crunch factor when I think of it. I don't bother grinding or cooking the flax in any way. Just eat it like a little nut in my salad or on potatoes. I don't know those things you're taking, so I'm afraid I'm not much help. I don't touch any NSAIDs any more. No aspirin, aleve, ibuprofen, etc. Only Tylenol. And for the migraine, fiorocet. I've had four babies without pain meds (well, I had a tylenol and a cup of tea with baby #2), so I can deal with that. BUT, the pain in my arm from tendonitis? Brings me to tears. I really miss the NSAIDs as much as I miss a big plate of gnocchi. Anyway... With gluten free and careful with medication, I rarely have had a colitis flare up in 6 months. I did get knocked on my backside by influenza in February. They gave me Tamiflu. I was so desperate to breathe that I took the medication. It aggravated the colitis. But once I got well from the flu and ended the Tamiflu, the colitis cleared up in a few days. Funny how one cares little about the big D when one is just struggling to breathe! (Of the 6 in this house, we all got the flu. Three of us had the flu shot, too. Bummer. Different kind of flu got us than what was in the shot. Of the six of us, I got knocked down the hardest. Ended up in the hospital for breathing help and getting stabilized.) I have to be careful about caffeine. Too much of that will trigger the colitis, too. And chocolate seems to bother me now, so I limit that, too. I try to drink a lot of water. Oh, and I have to be REALLY careful about diverticulitis, too. Oh my. Got one attack of that in the last 6 months. I ate the " Prairie Bread " from Whole Foods against my better judgement. My friend calls it 'chia pet bread'. That stuff is lethal to me. I knew within days that I was in trouble. I got that tell-tale ache in the lower left side when I bent down to the dryer to get out the clean clothes. That ache that gets worse when you sneeze.... Had to get on antibiotics for that. The first antibiotic was supposed to be low-D risk. But Oh! Was I sick!! Had to go back to the old standby of Amoxicillan to whack out the diverticulitis. Yes, it aggravated the colitis, but I could deal with that. Well, got to get kiddos off to school. I'll look and see if I can find some of the LC info I had. You probably know it all already, though. Hugs. It's not an easy road to walk, is it? Esther in RI > > I'd love any info you have. Any good websites?
